More than 50 years ago, Gordon and Roy Bray set up shop on what was then the westernmost fringe of the Detroit suburbs, cranking out, among other things, tasty burgers, fries and donuts for the locals. Today, while their trademark donkey is no more -- actually, it adorns the inside of the restaurant's renovated dining room, which is massive in comparison to the original space -- all the things that endeared Bray's to area residents remain. The service is good and quick -- they even have a drive-thru now -- and their burgers are good and greasy. If you like it messy, try their famous ''Bellybuster,'' a double cheeseburger loaded with Thousand Island dressing, and unless you like onions, you'd better tell them to go easy. Their classic burgers are stacked with enough of the grilled variety to drive a wedge between even the most-devoted couples. But they're oh so good!

Add CommentUsed to be good
We'd always go to the one on Ford Rd. They used to be so good, but lately they skimp on the onions (even when we ask for xtra) and the burger is always dry and burned around the edges. They've gone downhill.
late-night drunken heaven
I live right by the Bray's in Hazel Park and I go there once in awhile when I've got the late-night drunken munchies. And much like White Castle, I try to avoid eating the food while sober. But when the moment strikes... there is little that compares to a Belly Buster and an order of their DELICIOUS made-fresh-to-order Onion Rings.
Best burger around
The 1st. place I stop upon arriving in Michigan when visiting family is to stop at Brays and eat a couple of burgers. We have been going there for many many years.
Last resort burger
Bray's is certainly not a Top 5 burger. Miller's, Bates, Masons, Hunter House and heck, even Branns or Cheeburger-Cheeburger are far more superior and with considerably less, after taste. Unfortunately, I don't enjoy tasting my burgers a day after I ate them.
# 1 in my world.
I grow up in north Dearborn Hghts, From the time I was a young teenager I would walk to the Bray"s that stood on the corners of Ford rd and Inkster rd. I was broken hearted when they took it down several years ago.I'm now 43 and still at least once or twice a month I go to Bray's now in Westland. The taste of those burgers are the best, and bring back good memories.
gotta love that donkey :)
Bray's is just a hop, skip and jump from me...I like that it has take-out...chili fries are tasty...fresh potato chips are good, too...like kettle chips...crunchy...I'm shy when it comes to the onions...but I'm sure they're good...I usually just have tomato and extra pickles...I've visited both the old and the new Bray's...that donkey is just too cute!
I Dream About Them

I now live in Florida, but it is still the first place I stop when coming back to Westland. I still have memories of Lucille standing over the grill, keeping the drunks behaving at 2:00am Saturday mornings after the bars closed. Used to be 5 burgers ina bag for a buck. Don't forget a bowl of their chile also!!
