Nothing says you're serious on a date more profoundly than chateaubriand for two served tableside, with a premium glass of wine. But if beef isn't your thing, look for an array of full-blown, amazing seafood and pasta dishes on the menu at Mr. Paul's Chop House. The place is known for their Caesar salad, with good reason. Fresh ingredients and a tasty dressing combine to make the perfect appetizer for a main course. One specialty, a rack of lamb served with wild mushroom-encrusted pasta, is said to be to die for. The ambiance is both dark and romantic, sure to impress even the most discerning diners and skeptical dates.

One of the Greatest

Mr. Paul's is one of the greatest remaining independent restaurants. It's a bit of a blast from the past, the architecture is reminiscent of the 60's, actually, authentic 60's, and so is the menu. The service is always competent and professional, the food is always excellent. I like my whitefish to be broiled perfectly and simply so this is where I go for that. this is one of the few places left where your Caesar salad is made tableside in a big wooden bowl, the way it should be made. Crowded on weekends, it is the best place on the east side for a business lunch when you are taking out your client. Mr. Paul's descendants are carrying on a great tradition.

Great Atmosphere
This restaurant reminds me of the way a lot of restaurants used to be 30 years ago. There is tableside preparation of food-Chauteaubriand, Caesar salad, Bananas Foster. There is a piano player in the bar. And the decorations during the holidays are just beautiful. It is a very romantic restaurant and the last time we were there, a couple got engaged. No one knew them but the whole bar toasted them and clapped while they got their picture taken. Great food too!
Great New Years Eve Spot
We have been going to Mr. Paul's Chop House on New Years Eve for about ten years now, our party sizes have changed in size from four to as many as twelve, we have never had a bad meal. We also go for regular meals, birthdays, and other special times. many thanks to Paul, Chris, Peter and the entire staff. Van and Delia
Mr Not Impressed
I took into consideration that it was New Years Eve when we went to dinner but, for the prices we paid, I expected a little more. I believe in general the whole restaurant industry has taken a downfall. The food as it stood tasted good but it was not worth the eighty dollar bill we received. The restaurant was crowded and they tried to seat my wife and i next to the piano player on NYE, not the seat that you would want!!!! The food was good but I recommend to anyone who has a little bit of culinary skills to make dinner for themselves as opposed to going to this "chop house". The crowded atmosphere combined with the inattentive staff made for a rather unenjoyable experience. I was upset for taking my wife here on her birthday and I will not return.
Best Caesar in Town

Mr. Paul's has to be mentioned in any discussion of great Detroit restaurants. While I've never had a steak there in my life because the perch and the walleye are to good to pass, the best thing is to go for dinner and get a caeser salad for two and watch them make it tableside. It's a better show than flaming cheese or flying shrimp.
Ooh La La

Steaks to die for! Absolutely best I've ever had! Do NOT have anything except the steak! You won't be sorry!!!
