Steaming two-inch-thick pizzas tangle the Green Lantern's patrons up to their beer mugs in cheese. Sandy, the long-time drink-slinger, keeps stories of her professional horseshoe pitching adventures close at hand. Domestic taps of Budweiser and Labatt's (isn't Canadian brew considered domestic yet?) threaten to flood the room. All in a corner bar set solidly in its place for over 40 years. The edifice screams from its cross coordinates of John R and Twelve Mile with bright greens and pinks. But don't let that color scheme throw you. Much more chill than the exterior suggests, this homey bar -- cheap, comfortable and packed with miscellaneous walls hangings -- is a prime gathering spot for sports fans and families. Its small size suggests an intimate setting, be it for the regulars who rub elbows or the side-stepping waitresses who run the joint. Sandy suggests ordering the pizza, which has been written up in local newspapers. Neighboring regulars petitioned for the weighty chili boat: a pool of chili, onions and cheese baked in pizza dough crust. For an even more affordable night, scout out the Web site for cyber coupons on both dishes.

  • Another Location in Clawson

    Review rating : 5out of 5   sndrpopp - 02/22/2007

Been getting those subs for over 40 years, and now a new location in Clawson makes it easier because I live in Clawson, it is on Rochester Road just a quarter mile south of 14 Mile Road. Love it!!!!

  • Never Skimpy

    Review rating : 5out of 5   timsharp11 - 02/20/2007

Loaded with toppings. Cooked just rite. The flavors are unbelievable from the fresh toppings to the sauce.
    Wait staff is top notch.
    My personal favorite for Detroit.

  • I Don't Understand It

    Review rating : 2out of 5   walanr - 02/06/2007

I don't understand how this place can be rated so high. I have tried it a couple of times and I was disappointed both times. It serves an extremely average pizza. Each time my group had a loaded pizza and a a pepperoni and mushroom pizza.

  • Not As Good As Louie's

  • Bursting with flavor

    Review rating : 5out of 5   designsbybobbie - 01/05/2007

The crust is crunchy, yet tender. The cheese and sauce blend well together all the while bursting with lots of flavor. There's never a mystery when having there pizza, because it is always preparred correctly each and every time.

  • Still the Best

    Review rating : 5out of 5   tlovas - 01/02/2007

I think it's popular for some to bash anyone that's on top! Green Lantern has been, and still is the best pizza in town! I've been to em allj! True, there are some close runners but nothing beats a GL deep dish.

  • Green Lantern Pizza not good

    Review rating : 1out of 5   demitahoe - 12/30/2006

I heard so much about this Pizza - could not wait to try it. Very dissapointed in the flavor, toppings, sauce, etc.

  • Great Pizza, LOTS of smoke

    Review rating : 5out of 5   rhringwood - 12/28/2006

Clearly the best pizza in all of Metro Detroit. Unfortunately, the stench of constant smoke makes this a carry out only for me and my family......

Very bad. Had gone there years ago, great pizza. Went a couple of weeks ago. Have to agree tasted like cardboard and burnt. I will never go back. Just awful!!
