Having long done breakfast to perfection, it's only logical that Toast: A Breakfast and Lunch Joint now does dinner. This funky Ferndale restaurant with bright walls, cool kitsch and great food has taken its breakfast-only cred and successfully put it behind a new dinner menu. It features Caribbean sweet red pepper chicken, Taos New Mexico pork tenderloin and Cotes Du Rhone (roasted turkey breast pan-seared and topped with white wine, whole grain mustard cream sauce and a smack of red chili spice) as three of the five main entrees. Pasta dishes (triple mac 'n' cheese, and veggie marinara), green chili-smothered burritos (including Mexican stewed chicken, grilled beef, spicy chorizo sausage or roasted vegetables for stuffing) and salads fill out this sensible menu. Toast also features eight different types of crepes -- from ham and brie to wild mushroom. And fans of the breakfast menu will be relieved that Toast will still serve up breakfast favorites like huevos rancheros, eggs benedict and Southwest potato pancakes.

I wish this place was as good as everyone thinks

I live in Ferndale, and have been to Toast several times. The food sounds great on the menu. The problem is, they are out of the key ingrediants in the recipie and do not tell you. The food comes anyway with the missing items. When I ask, "excuse me, doesn't this come with..." The response is always,"Oh, we're out of that." When i explain that you have to tell people this, the server never comes back, so we just leave.
Oh, by the way the service is almost as bad as the Harlequin Cafe. I have run and owned restaurants, so I am not kidding around. Would someone please tell me what is so great about this place? Oh yeah, they have toasters for decoration.Loved it
I waited months to catch this place open. I never got around to the area until later at night. It was worth the wait and can't wait to go again!
Deserved spot on "City's Best"
I honestly can't believe some of the reviews I've read here. I drive a distance across town just to have breakfast here. There aren't many breakfast venues in the Detroit area with such a unique menu. Another thing they have mastered is their consistent quality. A moderately frequent diner at Toast, I've never had an issue with missing ingredients or attitudes of any kind except the positive. And whoever it was that mentioned Delia's, if you're looking for a greasy spoon, Toast is not for you, and therefore there is no comparison to be made. You can expect to pay a little extra for an awesome breakfast, but you're getting a whole lot more than greasy eggs and hash browns! If you've never been there - TRY IT !! If you've had a bad experience, trust that it was a one time thing and possibly attributable to your mood that day... Smiles, Melissa
Loved it

loved everything about this place, friendly waitstaff, the casual atmosphere, the coffee while you wait for a table, and of course the food. got one of the breakfast borittos, awesome, just the right mixture of everything. definately going back.
Worth the drive

Where else can you get such diverse offerings for breakfast. The owners, Regan And Matt have put together an outstanding staff and housed them in an atmosphere of an old diner. The food is outstanding ,the service is great and the owners are have real personality. I recommend this establishment to anyone who is sick of the same old thing.
Great BREAKFAST...
We have been to toast many times, always enjoying our breakfast choices. It can be a bit pricey for breakfast if you choose to add on things like juice, sausage, fruit plate but most of the time the selections from the menu, ie pancakes, bananna break french toast, are too filling to get side dishes anyway.
We've tried Toast for dinner and it was okay but extraordianarily overpriced. ALso, the food was not as good as breakfast.
The one negative I will mention about toast is that they need to be more aware of their presentation. The last two visits, the ceiling fan was literally coated in dust and there was dust sticking to the ceiling in several places. It was kind of gross.
Last word -- get there early on the weekend or be prepared to wait.awful joint
I ordered regular pancakes and they screwed that up. They were all bubbly on the bottom. Not to mention how rude the owners were when I complained. I tell everyone to avoid that place like the plague. In-fact recently some out of town guests wanted to try it out and I said if you eat there you cannot stay in my house. That's how bad it is! ughgh. Terrible people and service. Oh and the silverware was spotty.
It's No Greasy Spoon Like Delia's Was
You can't make everyone happy but Toast is all about providing the Gourmet breakfast and lunch in a comfortable, cozy atmoshpehere. It's definitely no greasy spoon like Delia's was and We will be open 7 days a week unlike Delias where you had no idea if you were going to be able to get brakfast say on a Sunday the busiest day of the week. I'm happy with the food that Toast puts out of the kitchen. And it seems that other people like what Toast does to as there are several breakfast/lunch places opening up with very similar menus. Remember folks Toast - Always Imitated but Never Re-Created. Enjoy Life, Eat Toast
