The rebirth in Corktown, Detroit's oldest neighborhood, continues in the shadows of the empty old Tiger Stadium with this new (it opened mid-September 2005) and dynamic barbecue joint. Some of the hundred-year-old buildings along Michigan Avenue are getting a facelift and the owners of Slows have tricked theirs out perfectly (look for the maroon-colored exterior), with sky-high ceilings, exposed brick, copper and wood appointments. Aesthetics aside, the menu speaks for itself. Slows name refers to the slow cooking movement, where food is, as the name implies, cooked slowly with low temps and that distinct wood smoke. While the barbecue standards like ribs, chicken and pulled pork are done to unspeakably perfect proportions here (as are the sides like greens, macaroni and cheese, and the delightfully moist corn bread), but other keen elements like the lean and tasty duck sausage are righteously tempting. Custom desserts and a bar with more than 20 taps? The only thing missing is your own personalized couch to take a nap.

Very Good :o)

Loved the atmosphere! The service was great for lunch! Thank-you! We had the chicken wings, a wonderful baby spinach salad with jalapeno dressing and the combo with some beer. The only thing that did not make it excellent was that the pulled pork was a bit dry. Overall though it was a great first experience and I would recommend it. So give it a try!

A NICE NIGHT OUT
LOVED THE RIBS, THEY FELL OFF THE BONE, FOOD WAS GREAT BUT SERVICE WAS NOT NICE AS I WAS TOLD, NEVER KEEP COFFEE FULL, NEVER ASK IF THERE WAS ANYTHING MORE WE WANTED. MY DATE DID NOT LIKE SERVICE, BUT FOOD WAS BEST WE HAVE HAD IN MONTHS
Dont waste your time!!!
Spare ribs were overly seasoned. They didnt have baby back ribs when we went. Waiter acted like he didnt want to be there. Mac & cheese was too spicey. Mama's green beans were horrible. Cornbread taste like cornmeal & flour; no flavor at all. Catfish was the only thing that was delicious. If u go to Gilbert, AZ try Joes BBQ it is the best I have ever tasted. Much better than this crap.
The best
I don't even like b'bque so this is high praise. This is absolutely the best b'bque I have ever eaten in my life. I have sent people here and they argree.
The Best
I stumbled upon this place the first week it was open and have been back at least once a month since. Long waits for tables, but plenty of outside seating in the warm weather. It is easy to find. Just look for the only place in this neighborhood with cars not on blocks.
