Ever since its long-awaited opening, this club has caused a deafening rumble in the scene, entertaining distinguished guests from both the business and political sector. As simple as its name, Envy is the downbeat newcomer following the flashy club boom. It is obvious that much effort has been spent in making Envy a great club. Scarlet and vanilla ovular pod spotlights, which fall at jagged intervals from the ceiling high above, provide a rich rain of dim lighting under which to sip and chat. With just a minute's hesitation, the custom-designed decor becomes readily apparent. Tangerine and lemon leather swivel chairs are perfect roosts to take in the pastel, high-backed plush seating and designer Jon Janviriya's torch-blown cocktail tables emblazoned with secret messages. The same sweeping forms are matched by painter Jeff VonBuskirk in his subdued oranges in the window seating area at the entrance. Envy attracts patrons from all walks of life, with a high concentration of upscale and professional with panache for a party. The dress code isn't strict; but don your sneakers and baseball hat, and expect to stand out. This is a loft soiree indefinitely set on 'hip.'

" A black club too" Mistymen-- was there a " for whites only" sign on the door originally?? This is downtown Detroit- if you want an all whites only club then go find one with a Skin HEAD on the door.

shdpd - 06/04/2004envy is not a bad place to be just make sure you go on the right night....or dont go out at all...just like most other bars/clubs in detroit...to many people worried about how much they have on clothes/jewelry/cologne...but play your card right and you just might like this place

jermabo - 05/17/2004I was not impressed with all the woman that was there. The men act like they were scared to ask any one to dance. More of the stand around and hold up the wall scene. This was not for me at all, alot of wanabes, with no ambition.

The crowd is a bunch of tweny-somethings, or would like to be, on parade like a pack of tacky dressers, bad pick-up lines, and too much cologne and perfume. Oh, and alot of gold jewely. Need I say more? Not for the more eclectic, intellegent crowd...at all.
