The original The Original Pancake House opened in Oregon in 1953. Locations abound and have won world-wide acclaim. So what's all the fuss about a breakfast joint that serves only eggs, crepes, waffles and pancakes? Long lines stretch around the building every morning, especially on weekends. The Original's secret is in its standards of quality. You'll find freshly squeezed orange juice, whipping cream in the batters, unbleached hard wheat flour, 93 score butter and an array of pancake selections that will make your head spin. We recommend The Big German, a baked pancake served with fresh lemon and powdered sugar, or the Garden Dutch Baby, the same puffy pancake filled with fresh vegetables and topped with Gouda cheese. Even the old fashioned oatmeal rates kudos. This is a great place for a casual breakfast meeting.

Orgasmic delight is waiting for you if you dare...

So what you have to wait 15 minutes in line -- that means it's good!! Don't think you can send the squeeze to hold your place in line-- all players need to be there to get a squat. Finally they take credit cards -- dump the cash. Food is out of this planet!! I keep saying I'll try something different but I'm addicted to the chocolate chip pancakes with home-made whipped cream. Call me bad, but that's how I am!! See U there. I know you want it!!!
Add CommentA BIT STIFF FOR BREAKFAST
THE OMELETTES ARE LIGHT AND FLUFFLY WAS TOO MUCH BUTTER AND A BIT GREASY.....BUT I ADMIT I DO LOVE THE SPINACH OMELETTE THE BEST. THE SMELLS COMING FROM THE CINNAMON GERMAN PANCAKES ARE WONDERFUL.... BUT THEY ARE VERY PRICY FOR BREAKFAST.....AND I AGREE VERY LOUD AND VERY CONGESTED......
Who would have thought...

Who would have thought a breakfast place would be one of my best dining experiences? Service beyond compare with a management staff right there ! Not cheap but you get what you pay for.

Love the place, a wonderful treat. Almost always a wait. Because of the long lines, we usually don't go in cold or bad weather. People not wanting to wait in line or eat when crowded should go after 1:00pm.
Metro's BEST breakfast period
Long lines are the only drawback to OPH. Once you except that fact, the rest falls in place. However, the same applies to any place at 11AM. Get up earlier and there is no wait.
Everything there is fantastic. All locations (Grosse Pointe, Southfield, and Birmingham) are all consistant in their high quality, which is unmatched and well worth what you pay for (which is respectable.) The bacon is thick, tender, and delicious. The pancakes (per the namesake) are the best you'll ever have. Further, they only seat parties that are present (table hording for stragglers drives me crazy.) The service is great too. If you want really fast, cheap, and generic go to a coney island.
