If you've ever been to Israel, you've surely happened across zillions of falafel stands. For those of who haven't, Jerusalem Garden is about as authentic as you can get this side of the Old City. Tucked inside a huge, homemade pita you'll find fresh hunks of the chickpea mixture, just the right amount of spices, and a fistful of lettuce and tomato. Slather it all in a terrific tahini sauce, and you have a complete meal for less than five bucks. Of course, the menu offers the standard Mediterranean fixtures as well: A decent spinach pie, better-than-most hummus and a small variety of other sandwiches. But why settle for less than perfection? Since 1987, this little red building has surely helped nourish hundreds of U of M students through bachelor's degree programs with something magnificently more substantial than ramen noodles.
