A circa 1930s vaudeville hall cum movie theater, this Towson landmark was built to entertain. Owned by the Baker family since 1959, the Recher sat vacant for a good portion of the '90s, but it came bouncing back in early 1999 as a premier venue for live music. Theater curtains now frame the main stage where local and national bands blare Thursday through Saturday nights. They Might Be Giants, Rusted Root, The Wailers and art-rock concept band, The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players are among the acts that have played there.
The Recher draws heavily from nearby Towson University, and to keep nonconcert-going students busy, The Rec Room, a bar/restaurant linked to the theater, has eight pool tables, 27 TVs and a full, but fairly standard menu of bar food. It's open 11AM-2AM daily (restaurant closes at 11PM) and has a DJ every Tuesday with two for one drinks from 10PM to closing. The Rec Room is also a popular spot for before and after concerts.

Best way to catch live music on the weekends for a cheap price. Absolutely love the place!

I have been hitting the Recher since it first opened as just a pool hall, opened by three brothers with a vision and serving up a little food and watched as they gradually expanded (got rid of pool tables and now have a whole billiard room...which is good..cause we missed the pool tables) and featured more and more live music and an expanded menu.
I sort of miss the earlier days (like 5 or 6 years ago) when it was a simpler place and not so commercial.
The food is good, and they have great happy hour deals and the music they feature is varied.
All in all, a very flexible place to hang whether you just want drinks and food, or a game of pool, or to listen to music.
