Mornings of Bisquick breakfasts pale in comparison after a visit to the Original Pancake House. With more than 15 types of pancakes -- from buckwheat to buttermilk to blueberry -- it's little surprise that lines begin to form in the early morning hours and stick around well into the afternoon at this restaurant on heavily-traveled Rockville Pike. Using recipes from around the world, the Original Pancake House seems much more like a mom-and-pop shop than a successful national chain with more than 90 pancake houses in 24 states in the U.S.
And while the name just mentions pancakes, the griddle here serves up much more. Waffles, crepes and omelets that are big enough to feed a family of four are available for those who aren't flapjack fans. But it really is the pancakes that this restaurant sells like, well, hotcakes. Slide into a booth and order up the behemoth Dutch Baby, a puffy delight dusted with powdered sugar and served with fresh lemon and whipped butter. There's a pile of pancakes for all tastes, whether you prefer tiny silver-dollar dollops or pancakes peppered with real bits of bacon. Juice, coffee and sides of bacon and sausage help round out your meal.

great food, somewhat "pricey", and the noise factor is not condusive to digestion.
Add CommentSlow Take-out Service
Don't get take-out from this place. The past three times i have gotten take out I have had to wait at the cash register at least 10 minutes. This despite the fact I called the order in 20 minutes prior. Today I got an omlete and hash browns (justover $14) and they forgot the pancakes and all the condiments. I don't know when this place started going downhill, but today was my last visit.
Horrible service
It was so loud it was ridiculous and they did not serve water. For some reason their water was dirty and they did not have bottled water to give or to even buy. They did not even offer a free beverage in place of water, they were very rude about it all. We never had our drinks refilled or the syrup refilled as it was almost empty at our table, I will never go back. I have been to an OPH in Cleveland it was very good but my experience here left me cold. I do not recommend this place at all, save your money it was almost 20$ for two people to have waffles.
Fantastic breakfast
We drive from DC to Rockville on Sunday mornings to have breakfast at the OPH. Excellent pancakes although the wait in line is horrible.

The strawberry crepes are out of this world! Fresh strawberries with homemade whipped cream and strawberry syrup preserves, Yum! The omelettes are also very good, but huge, and they take longer to come. A star off for the noise though, if you want to hear, don't go during peak hours.

6 of us have been dining for breakfast at the Rockville Original Pancake House every Saturday for two years and absolutely love it. Not only is the food great but the staff is tiotally exceptional. We are treated like royalty from the minute we enter and every one knows and asks about our granddaughters.
By far, it receives the highest rating and we are hard to please.
Service, staff, food all are top notch.Bob GeierCHESS1800R's Review

Food is great. Best pancakes in town! However, the price you have to pay for this - which is putting up with the nastiest manager/owner in the industry is steep. Word to the owner - stay at home -helping out at the restaurant is not your calling.

The breakfast food is very good and the service is reasonable, but the linoleum floors and crowded dining area make this place louder than a heavy metal rock concert. Good food, but don't plan to engage in meaningful conversation with a dining partner on a saturday or sunday morning.

Food is OK but the price is out of site for what you are getting. It is a great place after a long all nighter and you want to spend $, otherwise go to IHOP
FSUChristie's Review
The food is absolutely delicious! They offer a lot more than just pancakes. I really like the waffles and the hashbrowns. The service, including the friendliness of the management, leaves much to be desired. I'm never seen such grumpy people at a breakfast restaurant.
