Some people swear by Ledo Pizza and think the restaurant chain makes the best pie around. Their hook is a square pizza ("We're square because we don't cut corners" is the motto) and they claim round pizza pans were unheard of when their original College Park location opened in 1955. The chain has since expanded to include the metro area and several states. At the Frederick franchise on Prospect Boulevard, you'll find out what Ledo does so well. They offer casual dining with a wide variety of salads, pasta dishes, huge subs, sandwiches and burgers. But the pies are the main attraction. The dough and sauce are made fresh daily at each store, and the toppings and selections are creative, such as the baked ziti pie (sauce, Italian sausage baked in a pie crust with provolone) and "The Buffalo" (hot sauce, chicken and provolone), which falls into the "you-knew-it-was-only-a-matter-of-time" category. -- Penny Colston

  • GREAT

I've been eating Ledos pizza since 1970 at the Adelphi loc. The line was out the door & down the block most tilmes. The crust is a flacky crust almost like a pie crust & pepperoni is nice & thick & tastey. Now Ledos is all over. Think I'll go get one.

I've been eating it from the original Adelphi, MD location my entire life and I still think it's the best. Try it!

  • Don't Get It

Just read the review by AnneeOC and don't understand. Maybe she just got a bad pizza, which can happen anywhere. But for the record, Ledo is great pizza though different from most pizza you will find. I have lived in NY and Chicago, and their pizza are different from each other and from Ledo. To each his own. Personally I like Ledo pizza better than pizza I have had in Italy itself. I recommend AnneeOC to try one more time. One time recently I just missed seeing Gayle King (of Oprah fame) who is, when in town, a regular visitor to the original Ledo in Adelphi.

  • Worst Ever!!

    Review rating : 1out of 5   AnneeOC - 06/28/2008

I am sorry but Ledo's has to be the worst pizza I have ever tasted. Any pizza officianado knows what real pizza is...and Ledo's isn't. Grant it most pizza in the U.S. isn't what you would get in Italy; however, nothing...the crust, cheese, or sauce of Ledo's is remotely Italian. If this were to win; it would be a slap in the face to Italians who know the real deal!

    NOT EVEN CLOSE

  • Ledo is the best

    Review rating : 5out of 5   Dianenchris2 - 06/27/2008

I grew up on Ledo's pizza and now live in Orlando, FL. A Ledo's opened in Altamonte and just recently closed. We were devastated to say the least. It is hard to believe they could not make a go of it as Ledo's pizza cannot be beat anywhere. I know of people who have moved from MD and have Ledo's shipped to them wherever they are currently living...it is that good!

I'm from the area where Ledos started so I understand the attraction. However, Ledos pizza is a curious combination of very sweet sauce, decent cheese, and a very thin pastry-like crust. It's definately an acquired taste, which would be instantly rejected by out of towners as anything approaching decent pizza. That said, their homemade sausage is very good on its own or as a pizza topping. They also make one of the best steak and cheese subs around. For authentic pizza try Vace, Pines of Rome in Bethesda, or Pallisades Pizza.

  • Simply the Best!

My family and I have been enjoying Ledo for 40 years, and its still the best we have ever eaten. The best comes from the original Ledo on University Blvd down the street from U of Md. (If you can get Rosie or Flora to make one for you, you're in for a treat.) Highly recommended!!

We have been eating Ledo Pizza since the restaurant opened on University Blvd. near the U. of Maryland in 1955. It is THE BEST.

Since the grads still wanted their Ledo pizza, other locations have opened around the state. You can even get it in Ocean CIty now!

No other pizza can top it!
