Some people swear by Ledo Pizza and think the restaurant chain makes the best pie around. Their hook is a square pizza ("We're square because we don't cut corners" is the motto) and they claim round pizza pans were unheard of when their original College Park location opened in 1955. The chain has since expanded to include the metro area and several states. At the Frederick franchise on Prospect Boulevard, you'll find out what Ledo does so well. They offer casual dining with a wide variety of salads, pasta dishes, huge subs, sandwiches and burgers. But the pies are the main attraction. The dough and sauce are made fresh daily at each store, and the toppings and selections are creative, such as the baked ziti pie (sauce, Italian sausage baked in a pie crust with provolone) and "The Buffalo" (hot sauce, chicken and provolone), which falls into the "you-knew-it-was-only-a-matter-of-time" category. -- Penny Colston

City Best \O-O/
Hello - this place has good pie but not great pizza. Who puts a chain store in the city best? Let's ad Pizza **** to the list, we all know Pizza Hut sucks big time. That place would win hand down.
The folks at AOL better wake up, No Chain stores for city best. I'm going to write the CEO over at AOL in the CC-1 building.Add CommentBOGUS REVIEW

Recommendation for the Doubters

As I have been curiously looking at the critiques of the past couple of weeks on Ledo (not Ledo's), I think I see a pattern. The pattern is that the longer in history that people have eaten at Ledo, the more they like it. The reason is simple: until they began to "francise" out their pizza business (about 25 years ago or so I believe) there was only one location - Adelphi. Because of this, those of us like myself who came to Maryland to go to school in the 70's and 80's only know ONE Ledo - the Adephi location, located down the street from the U of Md. The problem is that NONE of the franchisees that I have ever tried come anywhere close to the original Adelphi location. They are usually too saucy, crust too thin, etc. Therefore, in my opinion it is not fair to put down Ledo UNLESS yu have eaten pizza at the Adelphi location. If you don't like that one, then your objection is legit.
It's OK... but only if you grew up in Maryland

It's clear to me that the only people that think Ledo's Pizza is "the best" are Marylanders that grew up with it. As a transplant to the DC area, I tried Ledo's Pizza on the enthusiastic recommendation of several natives. I am sorry to say that Ledo's Pizza is mediocre. I have had worse pizza, but I have certainly had better. For my taste their tomatos sauce is far too sweet and their crust is too thin--think ketchup on a cracker. I am not surprised in the least that one reviewer said that one opened in Orlando but soon closed--I guess there were not enough Marylanders there to keep the place open. Bottom line is if you're from someplace else and you know what good pizza is, then keep looking because Ledo's is not for you.
