Offering a wide selection of barbecue styles -- pulled pork, Texas beef brisket, Maryland's pit beef and Memphis-style ribs -- Andy Nelson's will make barbecue fanatics from all over the country feel at home (as long as they all hail from south of the Mason Dixon). The baked beans are a meld of smoky and sweet flavors. Dixie wings -- as opposed to their cousins in Buffalo -- are barbecued but not fried. The smokehouse Southern chicken is rubbed with a blend of spices and then ever-so-slowly smoked to perfection. The pulled pork comes dry and you choose your own sauce -- Bama Barbecue, a tomato-based, Memphis-style creation, Betty's South Carolina Mustard Sauce or Guy's Pig Dip, a spicy, citrus-based mix with a vinegary kick. Family-style meals go best with sides like the moist cornbread, creamy coleslaw, kosher pickles and barbecue potatoes wedges.

The restaurant's rustic ambiance is accented with lots of pig paraphernalia inside its three rooms, in case you missed the giant pig on the roof. -- Laureen Miles Brunelli

  • Great Ribs and Chicken - Side Orders Need Some Work

    Review rating : 3out of 5   Noah1426 - 09/05/2008

The meat items on the menu are great, but they need to work on the side orders that they offer. I ordered the chicken with no sauce and it was wonderful. You could taste the smoke flavor in the meat. The cornbread is great, BBQ Fries (which aren't really BBQ) are terrible. A regular french fry on the menu would suffice. My other issue is the tempeture of the food. Everything we ordered wasn't hot, but near lukewarm to cold. Lemonade & Ice Tea drink they offer was just plain bad. Not sweet or tart, just watered down.
Seating inside the restaurant is limited, but on a nice day you can take advantage of the outdoor tables and benches.

The food's so good because it comes from a wonderful family business - people who really care about their customers and have pride in the quality of the product and service they provide. It's all about the Nelsons!

  • #1 in my mind...

Fireside is good, but I have no idea how Andy's is not number. EVERYONE that I take here loves it. They catered my engagement party and the guests raved about the chicken and brisket. We ate leftovers for a week and I didn't complain! The pulled pork and brisket make the meal, but the sides (beans and cornbeard) are better than you would ever guess. Treat yourself to some of the hot sauces at the register. They pack some punch!

Food is excellent, Brisket is exceptional, service is no less.
Good atmosphere as I remember being in the south west restaurants. Highly recommended.
