Expect long waits at these dimly lit, sleek-lined dining rooms. The leather booths at Houston's are usually packed. Customers come again and again for consistently good takes on American dishes, some with novel-esque little twists. The Caesar salad, for example, is tossed with an eggless dressing; rice noodles tangle with rare steak and sweet Thai dressing in the ''evil jungle'' salad, and so forth.
A few things are must-haves, like the bubbling bowl of spinach and artichoke dip that's served with salsa and sour cream as an appetizer. Or the huge, gooey cheeseburgers and veggie burgers that come slathered with mustard and mayo, and topped with shredded lettuce and tomato.

woodmont grill
housten's is amazing. it has long been my family's favorite place to eat. the grilled chicken salad is to die for, as well as the fries. just a warning however, in order to have more control over its own menu housten's recently became the woodmont grill. exact same atmosphere and most of the menu items seem the same to me but the name is different. still one of the best places to eat in the area

Exceptional
I have lived in the D.C metro area for my entire life, and it goes without saying that many restaurants have come and gone over the years, but Houston's is not one of them. On an ordinary day after 6:00 PM, expect a wait - sometimes (on weekends for example) it can stretch out to be anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours for a table - but if you can't manage to beat the rush (usually between lunch and dinner hours, 1:30-5:30 PM on weekdays), just sit quietly inside, outside, or grab a drink at the bar and calmly expect a meal to be remembered. At Houston's, they make use of a daily soup calendar, all of which are exceptional. My personal favorite meal at Houston's is a bowl of the New Orleans Red Bean and Rice (only on Mondays) followed by a Hickory Burger. The soup is a a thick concoction of (you guessed it) red beans, andouille sausage, various peppers and vegetables, topped with a small scoop of white rice. The Hickory Burger consists of an all beef hamburger patty topped with three slices of canadian bacon, drizzled with hickory sauce (Houston's own barbecue sauce), shredded cheddar cheese and onions, all served on a toasted bun. For dessert, they have a myriad of choices, such as the warm five nut brownie, home-made apple cobbler, and cheesecake. I would highly recommend this establishment to any burger afficionados and to American food lovers in general.
Terrific Food & Service
Houstons consistently has excellent food and service. The spinach dip is the best and their grilled salmon is to die for! Wonderful atmosphere, friendly waitstaff, quality food - what more could you want?
first rate
crowded and a little crazy at times, but first rate food. Ribs, steaks and burgers all great. Good service
former employee
The food is wonderful! I hated the job, but will still look the managers in the eyes if it means having their fabulous spinage dip...nothing compairs!
