While your average diner can usually dish up a pretty decent breakfast, at Shea's that's all they do, and it shows. You might mistake it for a diner with its mint green dining room spread with tables and booths, until you begin scanning its menu. The selection goes way beyond eggs and flapjacks to specialties like breakfast burritos - even a BLT version of the egg-laden little packages - and biscuits and gravy with a choice of chipped beef or sausage gravy. In addition to items like the Texas French toast and buttermilk pancakes on the menu, you'll find a lengthy list of omelets, including the "Chesapeake," which is full of crab, broccoli and cheddar. Apparently Shea's counts on area residents' big appetite, naming the gigantic special of three eggs, three pancakes or French toast, choice of meat and coffee the "Baltimorian."

    • Fabulousness served with a side of Friendly

      Review rating : 5out of 5   IBCharlena - 05/21/2008

As you enter Shea's, the first thing you'll see is a friendly smile. A real, genuine smile- not one of those fake, smug smiles you get from orange-colored waiters with peculiarly spiky hair at some places. You know the ones. This warm smile is immediately followed by a "Good mornin', hon'. Table for 4?” For me, this is the first of many indicators that Shea's is a friendly place to have a meal.

We're usually seated immediately. Even if the lines out the door (because- yes, the food IS that good, but I'm getting to that) - you’re seated in minutes. They really know how to move. The staff is always more than pleasant, and they have a great way of making you feel at home. It's obvious these folks care a great deal for their customers; Always such an eclectic group of people. All with big appetites and an appreciation for good food, served with a side of friendliness.

I highly suggest ordering the cinnamon roll French toast with the fresh strawberries, and whip cream. It's ecstasy on a plate. Honest. I'm pretty sure anything THAT good should be illegal in at least some states. The fact that you can order one, two or three makes it easy to split. And it's always a safe bet to order one of the specials. The cook is seriously on the mark. These guys know how to do breakfast. And I'm always a fan of anything containing crabmeat (I'm a B'more girl – what do you expect?) And they're never stingy with the portions (yes - they're even generous with the crab). Everything is super-sized, but you'd never know it by the wallet-friendly prices.

The food comes out quickly and is always served with a smile. And the coffee never ends. They leave the pitcher with you! Such a nice touch, especially if you're recovering from a late night.

Whenever we can't finish our food (although the food is totally delicious, the portions are crazy large) our waitress always expresses concern: "Were the pancakes okay? Can I get you something else instead?" Once she's assured that we really did enjoy our meals, and that the only problem was the limited space in our bellies, she rushes off to bring us boxes so we can enjoy the fabulousness that is Shea's breakfast again later.

Breakfast at Shea's is more than just a meal. It's a great way to start your day.
