Boogie, Shreevie and the rest of the "Diner" guys who made late-night Mobtown munching a favorite Barry Levinson film would feel out of place at Pei Wei Asian Diner in Cedarcroft. There's nary a plate of fries and gravy, monstrous slice of meat loaf or half a fried chicken on the menu of this casual, affordable concept in Far East dining. Pei Wei features Japanese and Chinese favorites, hearty plates constructed in an open kitchen where culinary artists slice, flip and dice -- once you've stopped to place your order with the host and grabbed a table. Spring rolls, hot and sour soup and crab wontons are familiar meal starters, though mined chicken or chili-seared pork with cool lettuce wraps are more traditional ethnic openings. Carb-a-holics will enjoy fried rice, sweet and sour pad thai and the soba-miso noodle bowl, offering buckwheat noodles swimming in red miso sauce, spinach, shiitake mushrooms, cabbage, ginger, garlic and scallions. House specialties give diners the option of choosing meats, shrimp, scallops or veggies to make a variety of spicy and mild dishes. Many plates are available with vegetarian friendly tofu.

    My daughter and I went there in Tucson. The food was really tasty and it is different. Some spicy and some not. It is a really nice clean flavored, not too saucy, asian cuisine that has more of a restaurant feel than a fast food restaurant. There is no typical like egg foo yung. There has been good thought in the menu. They have many asian varieties, Japanese, Thai, Korean, etc. All fresh vegtables, rice or noodle dishes. Then you pick your meat or tofu. It can be spicy or not and they have kid size dishes. It is a pleasant break from eating Panera food and more tasty. Nice portions and a little more elegance without being stuffy. Well worth a try.

    I first noticed this place two years ago. It's in the same shopping center as the Eckerd and Caribou Coffee which is really awesome too. I like their food alot, I just don't see myself eating it all the time. The design is very nice inside with a mini restaurant setting and very young but polite employees running the show! I always stop at the Caribou Coffee during the morning, my lunch break, and sometimes for a pick me up on the way home and Pei Wei is great for take out to pick up dinner for the family. My kids love the smaller portions they have(kids wei) along with their decaf coffee beverages I bring home from Caribou
