For comfort food with a California twist, Papermoon Diner is a fun, visually overwhelming Hopkins-area hangout. This popular eatery is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and serves everything from burgers to salmon. You can eat-in or carry-out, although eating in is half the fun. Pez dispensers, Cupie dolls, action hero figures, decorated mannequins and various retro toys fill every nook and cranny of the restaurant.

The manager's favorite menu item is Mom's Meat Loaf -- homemade meat loaf baked fresh each day paired with Papermoon's delicious garlic mashed potatoes. Breakfast items are incredible -- the sunflower toast could be a meal unto itself. The menu is very diverse -- quesadillas, vegetarian dishes, burgers, omelets, soups and pastas.

You'll find the clientele is a blend of people -- the luncheon crowd mixes corporate downtown with art institute creatives. The dinner crowd combines Center Stage theatergoers with punk rockers. Traffic is steady through dinnertime, but if there is a wait, it's never more than 10-15 minutes. Large parties can call ahead for reservations.

Parking is plentiful, either at street meters or on Papermoon's lots. Day parking is available on a small lot adjacent to the building on Cresmont; after 5PM parking is available across the street. -- Laura Maguire

  • Very disappointed

We were a table of four adults and two children. The food was mediocre at best, slow to come out, and then when a foreign object was discovered in my dish, the management was pretty laisez faire about the whole ordeal.

The ornamentation gives you something to look at while waiting (and waiting) for your order.

    Will never return.

Went to Papermoon Diner and loved it! the food was delicious and the prices were great. the part i loved the most was the 80's music that was played non-stop. it was great and i would definitely go again.

Trying to be California effect eating and funk. I ate there before It was ever the paper moon and it was a diner scene. They need to get more information on how to be a west coast eatery.

i had the french toast which was ok but overpriced. however the bigger issue is that someone here is very disturbed. the "decorations" in the whole place yard to bathroom are of a lunatic. someday this person will be on most wanted.

Okay everyone, the papermoon is suppose to be a lil' restaurant where creative individuals go to get away from the everyday norm. One thing is for sure, this is not a place to have your 18th b-day party. Invite a friend out for a cappicino or a sandwich; don't make a field trip out of it, your killing the atmosphere. noone there cares its your birthday and the last thing they want to hear is a bunch of teenage girls. it was insulting to ask to have a party at the papermoon, next time go to chuck-e-cheeses!
oh yeah one more thing, your first server tells you that she will not be the only one taking care of you. the whole catch to their service is that you won't see the same server twice! thats the deal! its suppose to make dining interesting! the papermoon rocks!!!1

Hey everybody look at us! We have crazy crap on our walls! I lived across from this eyesore for four years and as it is the only 24-hour eatery around ate there a number of times. THe food isn't terrible, it's consistently average. The prices however are an insult. $8 for a cheeseburger is steep no matter how many barbie dolls are clinging to your ceiling fan. I don't know how most would definite a positive atmosphere, but I would call the paper moon tragically hip. THey try so hard to be "funky" it's pretty sad.
