Even before your meal arrives at Los Amigos, the friendly Hamilton eatery has conjured up the right blend of south of the border ambience. From authentic Mexican decorations, mainly in reds, greens and yellows, to welcoming staff, this inexpensive restaurant knows how to create mood to go along with its filling dishes.

Want a choice? Appetizer-sized nachos are available with cheese, beans, beef, chicken or in various combinations. There are also fish appetizers and soups. Lunch platters won't break your budget and dinners are bountiful enough to request a to-go bag. Meals are prepared with mild amounts of spice; if you want a little more zing, hot sauce is available on the side. You'll find the usual Mexican fare at Los Amigos -- fajitas, quesadillas, tacos and enchiladas. But you can also dine on marinated shrimp with rice, grilled seasoned chicken and pork chunks spiced with herbs and beer. There are almost two dozen combination dinners to tempt you. Not that hungry? Try the Los Amigos most popular items in single serving sizes, with rice and beans, for only 95 cents. Top your meal off with flan, sopapilla or fried ice cream. If your Spanish isn't up to par, the menu offers English translations - una idea muy Buena! -- Pete Kerzel

As a local to this South Of The Border eatery my wife & I have been to several Mexican restaurants in the area and this one NEVER LETS US DOWN. Weekends are busy of coarse like everywhere else on earth but the wait is NOT BAD. The menu selections are TREMENDOUS and the wait time after you order is FAST! RELAX, enjoy the FREE chips & dip while you drink the Mexican margaritas, look lovingly into your others eyes or talk to that family member you rarely talk to! ( O.K. I went too far ). It's GREAT to have a neighborhood, non corporate place with GOOD food and service I've never been disappointed with! The people here have never been anything but PROFESSIONAL & FRIENDLY! So grab your SOMBRERO, jump into the LO RIDER '62 CHEVY and ENJOY!!

Words cannot describe how awful my experience at Los Amigos was this evening, but please, allow me to try.

My boyfriend and I got to the restaurant at about 8:10pm. It was busy and we knew we’d have to wait. The hostess couldn’t give us any idea of how long the wait would be, but we opted to stay anyway, as we’d heard such good things about the place. After waiting 15 minutes, we were seated at the exact same time as two other couples who were waiting for tables; the hostess walked us all to our tables together. Within a few minutes, the other two tables had been waited on by two different servers and have their chips and drinks. However, we have not even seen our server yet. Finally she comes to our table, takes our drink order (water and coke) and says she’ll be right back with our drinks and chips. Then the real waiting begins. After 20 minutes, the waitress has not been back to take our order or bring us our drinks. The hostess comes to our table to ask if everything is ok, I tell her that we have been waiting for 20 minutes and haven’t ordered or gotten our drinks. She says she’ll take care of it, and a few minutes later someone brings us our drinks. About 5 minutes later our waitress magically appears and takes our dinner order. In the meantime the other two couples (remember-seated at the exact same time as us) are finishing their meals. Finally after another 20 minutes, our food arrives (by this time, one of the other couples has already paid their check and is leaving). And get this-the vegetarian meal has meat in it. Unbelievable! So, at this point we’ve had it, and I take the plate to the waitress and show her the vegetarian plate that is covered in ground beef, and inform her that we’re leaving.

So let’s recap: 8:10 arrival, 8:25 seated, 9:00 order taken, 9:25 order arrives – and is incorrect. I sure don’t know what all the buzz is about, and you can be sure I’m not going to be buzzing about Los Amigos anytime soon.

A friend and I went to this restaurant last Sunday, and it was absolutely horrible. It was a mom and pop spot, and I love to provide support to small businesses. But this one was well below sub par. The waitress was rude, the food was horrible. I am originally from Los Angeles, sooo I know what good Mexican food should taste like. The rice and beans were bland, the meat was over salted. In addition, we ordered margaritas, and they were okay, but not worth the $8.95 price tag that accompanied them. Mom and Pop restaurants are supposed to be pretty economical as far as price is concerned, but our bill was a whopping $73.00 and the waitress had the nerve to add on an 18% gratuity and their were only 2 of us! The only reason it made the list is because there are few mexican restaurants in the area. Take my advice when I say I would have felt better about spending $73.00 at Taco Bell!!!!!

  • THE MOST AUTHENTIC

Ever since moving back to Baltimore after 18 years in Southern Califirnia, I've been looking for those mom & pop authentic Mexican resturants that do all the usual fare you would exoect in a family type restaurant and do it well. I have found it and it's this one. The ingredients always seem fresh, the waitstaff helpful and the tortillas never stale! The steak is for the most part tender and the seafood never tastes fishy. Not a whole lot of ambiance but the prices make up for it considerably.
