It's hard to go three blocks in Boston without stumbling over an Irish pub, a seafood palace, a sports bar, or bookstore. But when it comes to great barbecue, you have to know where to look if you want hickory smoked meats and fall-off-the-bone ribs like you had that one time in Texas. Those in the know have headed to Day Square in East Boston for years where Uncle Pete's occupied a former Dairy Queen in the center of bustling Day Square. In summer 2005, Uncle Pete (alias Pete Cucchiara) relocated to Revere, but none of the kitschy roadside charm was lost in the move. The place is adorned with Stetson hats and framed images of cowboys, all awash in the light of Tiffany chandeliers. The only thing that changed is the liquor license, and that's not necessarily for the worse. Now there's a full bar with all sorts of libations to wash down those ribs.
Day and night, diners order takeout from the small counter or settle into the Naugahyde booths (also safely preserved in the move) to enjoy such favorites as chunky pulled pork or lean spare ribs that have been slightly crisped on the outside but remain moist and tender on the inside. The meat is marinated for five hours or more, and each of Pete's signature recipes have been perfected over time. Ribs are cooked with oak and hickory, chicken with applewood and pulled pork is slathered in Pete's own secret dry rub of herbs. With the quality of the meat, it's easy to overlook the inventive side dishes: homemade mashed potatoes, frosted sweet-potato biscuits or sweet baked beans, and even a medley of Asian bites, like a vinegary slaw. We may be time zones away from Texas, but a visit to Pete's is like heading home to the range.

Uncle Pete
Uncle Pete's was one of the best barbeque resturants around but, the Restaurant closed. Pete passed away 3-20-09 and his wife decided to close it. Its sad Pete was a wonderful man and loved his business. I hope she reconsiders maybe open a smaller place.

BY FAR THE BEST BAR-B-Q AROUND. REDBONES IS ONLY A BARROOM THAT SERVES BAR-B-Q AND PALE BY COMPARISON. TO PETE'S. I'VE BEEN GOING TO PETE'S SINCE HE FIRST OPENED AND HAVE NEVER HAD A BAD MEAL. I'VE EVEN HAD HIM CATER FAMILY FUNCTIONS AND THE RESPONSE HAS BEEN OUTSTANDING. TRY PETE'S AND YOU WON'T GO BACK TO THAT OTHER PLACE IN SLUMMERVILLE

Uncle Pete's is the very best when it comes to ribs. I have been going to Uncle Pete's since he was in East boston. I live in Danvers now and I still make the trip to Revere to get the Very Best ribs. I have tried them all and nothing I have tasted quit measures up to what you get at Uncle Pete's. Try it if you dont believe me.

If you know and love great ribs, this is the place.
Dry rubbed and well smoked with a unique flavor, unlike any ribs that you have ever had.
Great side dishes, including asian slaw. Try the mango salsa.
Pete is a wonderful guy

Uncle Pete came over to our table and explained how he prepares his meats. My husband ordered the pulled pork and said it was the best he ever had. The plate was piled high with meat. I had the beef ribs and found them very tender and not fatty at all. When the sides came I couldn't believe it, they were a basket full of hand cut fries and a basket full of onion rings. Try it, you won't be dissapointed.

FOLEY1974's Review
My brother just moved into the neighborhood, so I simply stumbled upon Uncle Pete's. Pete himself gave us a 5-7 minute introduction to our choices. They offer a special with three choices. I recommend the pork ribs and the pulled pork. I simply loved the entire experience, as did "me bruddah."
