Right across from the Prudential Center is the Pour House, one of several divey yet progressive bars along Boylston Street. Much like Whiskey's down the street, this is a laid-back, no-frills bar that offers hearty pub grub and drinks at economical prices. Naturally, it's a favorite for lunch and after-work drinks for the local twentysomething professionals; no place around helps you remember those carefree college days like the Pour House. This also means that as the evening wears on, it becomes more of an actual college bar as the kids head out for their own cheap drinks and good times.
The burgers here are satisfying, and you can find nice dinner deals on designated nights from 6-10PM. Chicken sandwiches are also a find, and there's much more to choose from on the menu: tacos, chili, wraps and clubs, steak tips and even chicken parmesan. Best of all, you'll have money left over to order another round and go feed the meter.

Excellent!
Simply stated, I love this place! It has been a while since I have been to Boston and the Pour House, but I remember breakfast there as being great as well as affordable. If you are looking for crisp linens and sterile surroundings, not your place, but for good food and a relaxed comfortable atmosphere, you have found it here. My favorite item on the menu (I hope it is still there when I get back to Boston!) is the seven pepper chili. Served with tortilla chips, it is a most satisfying lunch!
Add CommentGood food at a nice price
I've only been to Pour House once. I went during lunchtime & ordered the "hobo stew," which, despite having too many peas, was really tasty. I was surprised at how reasonable the price was! Plus, the bartender/server who was helping me was really friendly & funny. I'd definitely go back.
Out of the PourHouse and into the Penthouse....
This is a classic good "dive bar". Has a certain charm/personality that most of the local pubs lack. I dare you to eat the Pour Boy! Although, your arteries will thank you later if you don't. Enjoy the Red Life Saver.
Friendly People
My daughter Kelly B. works there..and she's the best! Good food for the price!
great place to watch the game and just hang out
when i feel like throwing on sneakers, drinkin great watermelon margaritas, and eating nachos i go to the poor house. its such a great place to just hang out and watch a sox game. i always have a great time when i go there, and i've been a customer since i was young taking my first train ride to go shop on newbury st. definetly go check it out.
great first impression
As the first establishment I ever dined at while in Boston, it made one heck of an impression. It was 11:30 at night and I was super hungry after sitting on a plane for several hours. The waitstaff was incredibly nice and attentive, the food was incredibly good for pub fare and it was pretty cheap. Sure it's a little loud but the atmosphere and the food keep me coming back now that I attend college around the corner. It's the only place on the block I can get dinner and a drink for under 12 dollars.
