The ultra-trendy Gypsy Bar (previously the ultra-trendy Pravda 116) oozes Euro-chic with its overstuffed leather booths and club scene in the back of the bar. Red neon lights highlight the giant mirrors along the walls, adding a cool glow to the giant jellyfish floating in a backlit turquoise tank behind the bar. If you aren't mesmerized by the fish, your attention will certainly be taken by the giant plasma TV screens displaying scantily clad models of the Fashion Channel.

Although the place is usually empty until about 10PM -- when the clubbers finally arrive to get their groove on -- dinner service starts at 5:30 and it is actually a pretty good deal. Nibble at an array of tapas and salads. Morroccan-spiced chicken legs and fennel-crusted ahi tuna are just a few of the internationally inspired offerings appropriate for Gypsy Bar's equally international clientele. The dance floor in the back rumbles to your typical techno-pop dance mix, and if it gets to be too much, there are several cozy corners (shielded by chain-mail curtains) to take a breather.

The bouncers are freaking nasty and treat people like shit. I was stanting in a main lobby by the seats. The first thing that bouncer told me was: "Get the **** out here. If you gonna stand here I'll kick you out of the club."

Huh? What? That's right - if you want such treatment, go to Gipsy and see for yourself.

  • Chic Setting & Gorgous Crowd

I just moved here from California and was told that Gypsy Bar was the place to see and be seen....so I stopped on by this past Saturday night!! Impressive I have to say, coming from Hollywood and trying to find as "chic" a setting as im used to going to....Gypsy Bar turned out to be the answer. The decor was absolutely beautiful, the setting was warm and inviting...and the people that were there, GORGOUS...i met some really cool people when i was there and i cant wait to go back this weekend, and looking forward to throwing on my Pink Pajama's and hanging with Rockstar Tommy Lee on next Thurs Mar 1st....hope he is READY ;)

I haven't been to Gypsy since last year, but went a few weeks ago for the DJ AM event... it was SUCH a good time. They did a little renovating since last time I was there-the VIP lounge is fabulous. You can do it all eat, drink and dance. The waitstaff was nice and totally gorgeous.. Gypsy is now one of my favorites!!!!

A large group of friends and I decided to try out a new bar this weekend. Wow, I have never been more disappointed, especially by the staff. This bar is overpriced and not that impressive. We were actually yelled at by three different staff members to move when we were standing and sitting. If we are going to be paying mucho dollares, why be treated this way? And girls, you may have the bodies to wear those things you call costumes, but your faces, man they are bunk. Not so nice to look at. I'd rather take my money and pay for monkey dong.

  • horrible

Overpriced, but you would expect that. Rude, surly, obnoxious wait staff and managers. Everyone that works there thinks that they are god, and that they are doing you a favor, incredibly full of themselves. As a 22 year old guy, I don’t expect the world, but a little bit of class would be nice. Round of shots for 10-$75, $10 tip, and advised by the bartender that I should rethink the tip, are you kidding me? having a drink spilled on you by a waitress and having her laugh about it, then a manager saying accidents happen, never a sorry, we'll get the clothes cleaned, etc... Terrible service, no idea how to treat a customer. Major disappointment.

  • THE WORST

    Review rating : 1out of 5   georb02130 - 05/12/2006

Do not , I repeat, do not schedule an event here! I called twice, made a reservation for 50, only to be told by some surley bouncer that they had never heard of us! The booking manager, Elizabeth, lied to my face when confronted! This place makes FEMA good! The manager, who I talked with, was a real jerk.

Never, never book an event here! Feel free to contact me at gboitano@securityintegration.com if you're even thinking of it.

  • What?!

$100 for what? Are you sure there no one over 30 years old go to this club? What kind of people would pay $100 for a one table or what?
Do students go there ,where do they get the $100 for a table or what?

  • over 30 stay away

    Review rating : 1out of 5   jabutter - 05/14/2004

This place let us down. We were under the impression from the add that it was a great place for all ages to go dancing and that it gets hoppin' by 10pm. We were sitting there from 10 to midnight and no one was dancing. The dress code they speak of is non existent. We were looking for class and a bit of fun for over 30 yr olds. We got none of the above.

  • good, not great

    Review rating : 3out of 5   iwab01 - 02/26/2004

My husband and I were looking for a night of dancing and a couple of drinks.
The drinks get low scores. I asked for a twist and didn't get it, and while I don't like a ton of ice, I got two half-melted cubes. The second drink came the same way. Maybe scotches are filled early and set aside? Gross thought. Music in the back room is fine, actually much better than fine. It's techno but has some musicality to it. That was a big plus. While crowded, it wasn't suffocating. The decor is great everywhere - nice booths and couches. The crowd is young. The girl taking the cover charge was eating gummy bears, if that gives you a clue.
