Dance clubs in this corner of New England simply don't come more extravagant than Avalon. From the chest-thumping, 360-degree sound system and hallucination-inducing light displays to bikini dancers, secluded VIP rooms and the wildest dance floor in town, this is where you come to let loose. It's no surprise, then, that Avalon consistently ranks as not only the best club in Boston, but also in the country. Superstar DJs are regularly flown in to spin house, techno, Top 40, hip-hop and everything in between for Boston's A-list of resident and visiting celebrities as well as hordes of college students and beautiful twentysomethings.

Of course, all of this luxury comes at a price. Cover charges can top $20 for dance nights and much higher for certain rock acts who crank up their guitars on this hallowed stage from time to time. Coat checking can run you more than the price of your coat and those fancy drinks can be worth more than most people make in an hour. But make no bones about it, Avalon is the cream of the crop. For a true taste of New York-style clubbing, this is as good as it gets.

    Not just any hole in the ground, this place gives new meaning to the term "watering hole"!

    Try dBar on Friday nights, Paradise in Cambridge (or Epic) on Saturday, stay home and recover from the great weekend you just had on Sunday!
    Or if you feel the need for more punishment, check out the Estate!

    Places to avoid? There are way too many to list, I could just say: "BOSTON!" You're on your own from here, may the force be with you, tally-ho and arrivederci!

    They tore the place down to put up a new House of Blues. boohoo. Epic at the Roxy on Saturdays is now the place to go. You also should include Paradise in Cambridge.

    so usually i dont like to rate or review things...im pretty indifferent to any club i go to whether it be nyc, miami, or boston...but i felt it necessary to comment on how bad this club is...its shit....so for your sanity and intregrity please dont go here..as someone who likes to party and have a fun carefree night, i would not recommend this place to ANYONE.

    if ur stuck or are never planning to leave the boston nightlife than this should be one of ur favorite spots...real good time but im just really upset with how far behind boston nightclubs r....if u want to experience the way a real techno party should be at a nightclub get outta boston!!!! If for whatever reason im back in boston though ill be back...good time

    the music is pretty good and it's not a bad looking club, but what a bunch of skeevesters who go there! there is definitely a lack of men, especially attractive ones. maybe it's time to institute a men's night rather than a ladies' one? if it wasnt free to get in before 11, i would never go.

    Avalon is totally hit or miss. One night it rocks, and one night it sucks beyond all belief. It's literally too painful to stay! The crowd is extemely unattractive, dorky, and primarily asian and bostonites who have come into the city from the suburbs, AWFUL. I know this sound mean, but the scene is so NOT COOL at all. Waste of $20. The music is great though, but a bit too loud. And the bar doesn't take credit or debit, BULLSHIT. Major hassle. They have an ATM, but it charges you and big fee, and I dont like carrying cash when I'm drinking, if ya know what I mean. Also, the coatcheck is obscene. If you have $20 to blow, then go check it out, u might get lucky. Otherwise, stay away from Landsdown in general, trash central!!!

    one of bostons better clubs. The music is good but the guests arn't so great alot of trashy people who think they are better then god.drinks are easy to get. V.I.P room isn't what its all cracked up to be. getting on the list not easy.
