City's Best

1426 1st Ave
Seattle, WA 98101

Opened in 1939 with a stylistic nod to New York City's Music Hall and quickly becoming a dime-a-dance destination for soldiers on their way overseas in World War II, the two-story Showbox has had a long and checkered history. Its stage and oak dance floor on the upper level have hosted some of the Seattle music scene's most memorable performers: Duke Ellington, Muddy Waters, The Police and Pearl Jam. It's also served as a bingo hall and furniture showroom. The Showbox is one of the region's largest performance venues, accommodating up to 1,000 music fans. Downstairs, the popular Green Room hosts smaller shows and is the latest incarnation of a space that once was a peep show. Both the walls and the trim on the sleek bar are green, naturally.

The day started at the EMP by chance seeing a handwritten original of the song lump by presidents of the USA. Cool to see it because we saw PUSA perform there old songs and a few from there new album at the Showbox. PUSA still packs a punch after all these years. Service sucks but the bands are great. Well with the exception of some of the opening acts who needed SOME practice.
