The Berkeley Cafe has been bringing live blues and guitar tunes to downtown Raleigh since 1980, and its popularity hasn't waned. While its unassuming exterior and shabby interior may tempt some to dismiss it as a dive, most agree: The Berkeley Cafe is comfortable. Shows start around 9PM, but you can refresh and refuel at the bar with one of Berkeley's 'world famous burgers' and basket of fries before getting down to serious music-listening. Keep tabs on upcoming acts through the Cafe's Web site, or mosey in when you're up for anything but ready to chill.

Some good, some not so good
The calling card of this place is the Jam Night. The good part is that musicians can get on stage and jam. The bad part is that Josh Preslar is capricious and arbitrary about letting you go up.
You could be first on the list and if Josh doesn't like you, you don't get to play.Comments(0)|Add Commentbad part of town
never mind the venue itself. i would be worried about walking around that area late at night.

I love the Berkeley. I have been to many clubs and venues but this is right up my ally. Small close knit crowds gets into the music and the vibe just cant be beat. Thumbs up!!!!!
