World Cafe Live is an adult venue. No, it's not a porn palace; rather, it's a place where adults can come and see live music in comfort. No smoking, no standing, no bad seats -- just the music. The brainchild of concert promoter Hal Real, who approached the Penn-owned WXPN about opening a venue, World Cafe Live is named after the famous David Dye-hosted syndicated program that brings artists to the radio station for an intimate afternoon of performance and interviews. The lineup skews heavily toward world, folk and jazz, with ticket prices slightly higher than at most local live music venues. Inside, the vibe is upscale, almost plush, with well-appointed rooms both downstairs ("Downstairs Live") in the main music room, which generally charges admission, and upstairs ("Upstairs Live") in the bar and dining room, which has an eclectic comfort food menu and hosts up-and-coming acts for free most nights. The atmosphere may be more genteel than most clubs you've been to, but if you feel too old to stand in a smoky, crowded club while you watch live music, then World Cafe Live may be for you.

Great place for live music of all sorts. The upstairs cafe has good food and a mix of music on different nights. Downstairs is a larger venue, that offers a showcase for local bands. Sometimes 3 or more in one evening.
Prices for the downstairs range for $11 to $20 per person, depending on the band or the number of bands appearing.
