Harling's is hard to miss, but that doesn't stop it from getting mobbed on the weekends. With a front entrance on the second floor of a Main Street building and a back entrance with a boardwalk across a roof, getting there is like sneaking into an old mobster's hangout. The addition of more lights and a fresh coat of green paint have given the place a friendly facelift, but the clientele is still mostly college kids. Even with the makeover, a worn Irish tri-color still hangs on one wall. The main wooden bar is along one wall with a large mirror behind it. The place is a lot like what you might find in Ireland, and some of the bartenders still have a brogue. There is a second bar in a larger back room that opens when it gets crowded, and live bands often play on a small stage along the wall. The bar only accepts cash, but you don't need much as a pint of Guinness runs under $3. -- Jeannine Koranda

I have been performing every Saturday at Harling's for 19 years and I still love every minute from 2-6 pm doing the Jam there. Some of the best of KC's performers stop by each week. This is the longest historical Jazz/Blues Jam in Kansas City.
