The Vogue, possibly Indy's most successful dance club, is the place to see and be seen -- and to catch great live local and national bands. Get there early for performances, because there are only a few small cocktail tables on the narrow balcony overlooking the stage. Otherwise, it's first-come-first-serve, standing-room-only for bands as varied as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Phish and Willie Nelson. Other weekly attractions include Retro Rewind, Lunacy Dance Club (ladies free) and Tease (for techno and hip-hop). Watch yourself on the web cam or just enjoy the view of the beautiful people. A great light show, decent dance floor, drink specials and plenty of loud music make for a hot night in quiet Broad Ripple. -- Lori Lovely

Tried it, left early
You'd think a place this old would have some class or retro charm, but it lacks both. It's dingy and uncomfortable. The good reviews here must have been written by people who work there -- they are a little surly if you actually want service. I'd say don't pay to get in then leave; just find something better to do in the first place.

We were there to see LEFTOVER SALMON,and it was fantastic. It was smokey but I have seen worse. The thing to remember when you go to these places is that if you don't like something about it you should leave. It is very hard to make it just right for everyone. It is your own fault if you stay and then complain. This is still a free country and you can leave just as quickly as you came in. Waiting to see Rachal Yamagata..........
Hot Band
The only reason to go is for a really hot band. Otherwise, it's crowded and unpleasant.
Great place!
Yes it was "crowded and smokey", as titled below. Notice how he said that?
Had a great time. Love to go to different places in the city. The bartenders and waiteress really know how to put on a show!
Act like they work there as more of a hobby, also great atitude!
The D.J. was excellant, even by west coast standards.Crowded and Smoky
Went to the Vogue for New Years Party 12/31/2006. The place was packed. The dance floor was standing room only. I wouldn't want my girl on that floor with cats copping a feel indiscriminately. There were a lot of guys standing around on the main floor. Shady looking dudes. We were in the balcony where there was a lot more room to move, but not really to dance. It's more fun dancing with the people, because of the energy that's around you, but not fun at all when it's overly crowded, and people dancing with drinks and spilling them on you. It was a diverse crowd in age, ethnicity, and also class. Saw thug types, artsy types, and uppity types. Ravers and Hip Hoppers too. I'm from Ohio and I totally forgot that Indianapolis still has public smoking. My girl has locs and it's gonna take a couple of days the get the smoky smell out of her hair. The music was okay. They were true to the types of music advertised on their Web site. I'm thinking that had I known more about some of the other spots (mainly hip hop, R&B spots) I woulda went there, but my concern was being in some spot where there could be trouble, seeing as I'm from out of town. Based on NYE 2006, I give the Vogue a C. The people were having fun and it was high energy, but it was waay too crowded and smoky. I am sure they were beyond what the Fire Marshall would have found acceptable..
