3826 N Illinois St
Indianapolis, IN 46208

The Melody Inn is rumored to be the second oldest bar in Indianapolis. Located at 38th and Illinois Streets in the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood, The Melody is a small, friendly storefront tavern with an undisputed reputation for coolness. No 50-cent beers or rowdy crowds here. The decor is pre-1960s and highlights include a sophisticated jukebox (Patsy Cline to AC/DC), one pool table and a giant driftwood chandelier. You can slide into a circular, mustard-yellow, vinyl-upholstered booth or sit at the old oak bar to catch the best in original local and regional music. Crooked country, hip- hop, speed metal and punk can be heard seven nights a week. Sunday is dance night with a Goth- Industrial DJ. The bartenders and drinks are said to be the best in town. There is an occasional cover charge (maybe $3) on weekends. There's plenty of parking and bouncers who are happy to escort you to your car, if you wish.

This is the only bar in Indianapolis that actually plays great music and features awesome local and regional bands!
