The Neighborhood Theatre brings in national acts, rising stars, local bands, performance artists and comedians, too. While this modest auditorium may not have the best acoustics in the world, it brings diverse entertainment offerings to North Davidson -- the neighborhood known more affectionately as NoDa. Around the theater you'll find fine restaurants, boutiques and galleries, all of which make for interesting browsing and dining before a show.

The main auditorium (with room for 500-plus in standing-only sections) is reserved for bigger acts, while the Side Stage, a smaller space with seating for up to 400, usually hosts plays and more-intimate events. This historic 1945 moviehouse is the place to monitor, for it shows those artsy and alternative shows that don't often make it into mainstream venues. -- Carl Salminen

My wife & I have gone twice, both times meeting friends there. The first time we were asked to leave because we were talking too loud during the performance. We talked about it after we left and decided to give the staff the benefit of the doubt. The next time my wife was scolded by staff in the lobby for laughing too loud. Never Again!!

I have been to several concerts at this venue which I used to consider one of the best sites in Charlotte.

At the Dan Hicks concert some weeks back it appears the attitude has changed. I payed for my $15.00 ticket and was walking into the lobby to be out of the way and hand my ticket to the vendor when some 5'8" 40's guy grabbed my wrist very forcefully from behind. I turned expecting to see someone I know and instead a stout guy I have never seen before started with a rap about my "needing a bracelet". I was concerned that the guy had mistaken my gender preferences [or was not concerned with them] and was wanting a date. He instead held on to my arm pulling me eventually to another chap in a group who had some plastic bands. I saw only one other person who had to wear a bracelet so I was not in a great mood for the concert when it started..

Dan Hicks & band were entertaining and have a great stage presense.
