It's got a decidedly New Orleans feel -- even a sign across the street advertises ''The French Quarter.'' From the two-story layout to the massive windows overlooking Church Street, The House of Jazz channels the style of the Big Easy without going kitsch. The downstairs dining area's mood-mellowing jewel tones and jazz-themed paintings are the right backdrop for romance when you meet your first bite of Carolina Crabcakes. Yeah -- that's love.
Upstairs, the bar scene is cheerful and inclusive due to either the small but well-designed space or the preponderance of specialty martinis crowding the tall cocktail tables. Local jazz bands as well as national acts work this friendly room that gets the musicians up close and personal with the uptown professionals who circle the second-floor lounge. After work the ladies meet for cocktails and the 411, while weekends heat up the crowd with late-night creamy crawfish-and-sausage dip with a side of smooth jazz.

All black businesses and you wonder why they don't stay in business
Managerment sucks. They don't know how to run a successful resturant

Recently some friends and I visited the House of Jazz. The entertainment was good; the food was overpriced and just okay. Would I visit again? Mixed feelings about it.
POOR SERVICE... NOT UPSCALE!!
This restaurant takes claim to be an upscale restaurant, typically upscale restaurants take reservations, when I called to make reservations I was told it was first come first serve. When we arrived, it was on a Saturday evening and we were told there was an hour wait. It didn't take an hour but, never the less I am sure this was a typical night and I thought it was ridiculous to tell a customer there was an hour wait. They called us up to be seated and then said, sorry let me see if there is anything available. When we were seated they tried to seat us at a table in the corner that was terrible and in a very tight space they did put us in a booth, luckily!! Once at the table the waiter forgot my water, and when I ordered a second martini he forgot that also. He only visited the table twice on his own without us flagging him down.
There is a cover charge of $10.00 PP after 9pm when the band plays, that is a joke!! The set up for the band was terrible, only a handful of tables can see the band, they do have flat screen TV's in other parts of the restaurant where you can see the band play. They were to start at 9 pm, they started @ 9:30pm, during the band practice there were some very loud awful noises from the band, that didnÂt go well with dinner!!
This place is not upscale, in fact it is far from it... this place has poor service and is very gangster. I do NOT suggest this place to anyone, there are other places in the city that play jazz, I suggest you try one of them.
I will say the ONLY good thing here was the food!! We had the chicken and sausage jambalaya, it was EXCELLENT hats off to the chef everything else need a tremendous amount of work before I could consider this upscale!! Eat drink & be very weary!!Poor Food & Service
What a mistake. The fact that we were the only group dining and everyone else we saw enter went directly up to the jazz club should have been a sign. Our entire dining experience was disappointing from the ant crawling on the rim my water glass. To the ant STILL crawling on my water glass after the host "supposedly" brought me a replacement. Our group of five tried several entrees and each was barely edible. Catfish - overcooked. Shrimp and grits - dry and congealed . Ribs - a fatty shoulder portion etc... etc... Tip for next time - Eat first elsewhere (Mert's Heart and Soul) then just pay the cover and go directly to the lounge upstairs.
