Sometimes you just have to have a burger, especially if you've had a few cocktails and notice the sun is coming up. There -- off in the distance -- just off Bourbon Street -- Yo Mama's. Depending on just how many cocktails you've swallowed you may need anything from the quarter pound burger all the way up to the full one-pound sandwich. That's right -- one full pound of ground beef cooked to order and dressed to a T. You've never paid $10.50 for a burger? Chances are you've never had 61 different tequilas to choose from either, but you will here.

Meanwhile, the sober, hungry crowd also finds its way to Yo Mama's for burgers with peanut butter and bacon (really) and even those with sour cream and caviar (the ''Burger Romanoff''). Have it with chili, or ask for a burger with bleu cheese or rise above it all and have a filet mignon, baked potato and salad. With 14 burger varieties, a veal sandwich, a yellow fin tuna steak and lots of salads, everybody's filling up at Yo Mama's. Shouldn't you? -- Paul A. Greenberg

  • Best Burger in New Orleans

    Review rating : 5out of 5   bkcmar - 07/04/2008

I work at Pat O'Brien's so Yo Mama's is easy for me to get to. I have lived in the French Quarter for 20 years. I use to rate Port of Call the best and Yo Mama's a close second Pre-Katrina. However since the storm that has changed. Yo Mama's burger is the best in town. It is always cooked to order. I like my burgers rare and the cooks understand what rare means. At Port of Call, I have received "mid-rare" to medium as a rare burger. I had to send them back. I no longer patronize the Port nor do I recommend it.. The cook Tim totally rocks. The bartenders Amy, Jamie, and the other young woman whose name escapes me at the moment, are f**king awesome. What can you say but great food, drinks and staff. You can't miss with that.

  • The 'REAL' best burger in New Orleans...

    Review rating : 5out of 5   SamatPC - 06/25/2008

I'm a local, and I'm sorry but the myth that Port of Call has the best burger in town must be debunked! I'm sure there was a time when this was true, but as their popularity has increased, the size and quality of the burgers has decreased. They continue to win the yearly distinction based mostly on name recognition. I'm not trying to dis the old Port: the late-great George Brumat (who also helped run Snug Harbor jazz club) started the place and created the famed burger, but if we're talking about who has the biggest, fattest, juiciest, most delicious burger in town, it's Yo Mama's, hands down!

  • For the love, of burgers!

    Review rating : 5out of 5   myfavburgers1 - 05/27/2008

So here we are (hubbs nd I) out for the French Quarter Festival walking around trying to find something great. Not that there was not many of great things to get but not quite what we wanted. We decided to stop outside of Yo Momma's where they are cooking crawfish in the front. The smell of crawfish makes me wanna barf but, my husband scarffed down a whole load of those creepy, smelly things once we got a seat. It seems that the cooks in the back, Larry and the cute girl with the black hair and tatts, keep the kitchen running great. There seems to be a secret to these famous burgers but no ones knows but them, like Bushs baked beans, only the dog knows. So as I look over the menu with no realization of how hard it actually is to make such an important decision I find "the bull fighter" it's killer we'll just say. Then for two days after I tried two other burgers. Needless to say I ate there for three days. And, when I return I will also eat there for as many days and for as many pounds as my thighs can handle. Thanks guys!

  • Love Yo Momma's!

    Review rating : 5out of 5   dixiedee10 - 05/21/2008

I have eaten at almost all of the ones on the list, and by far Yo Momma's is the best! The price listed isn't accurate on the first review, it is $8.95 for the Burger and salad or baked potato.

Besides the food, the staff is fantastic! Art, Erica, Jamie, Libby and the gang make you feel right at home. It is a safe place to go for a drink at anytime, and it's location right off Bourbon and St. Peter's (Crazy Corner), right across from the side entrance to Pat O'Brien's make it a great place to go night or day.

Besides having the best burgers, their tuna steak is to die for! Having the best tequila selection in the Quarter is also a bonus.

    Would highly recommend!

  • fabulous.

love the atmosphere, love the drinks - Erica makes quite a tasty Raspberry Cosmo - I must say. and the burgers are wonderful... must be the cook, Chad and crew. oh wait, did i mention the crawfish? yea, crawfish... only during those certain months, but worth the wait. big fan of the bullfighter burger, and definately crave the peanut butter burger every now and then. hell, they're all good... good enough for me to take the drive across the Causeway just to get a bite (and a few Cosmos).

I now live 15 hours away and crave peanut butter burgers everytime I wear my t-shirt (hey don't knock pbut butter burgers til ya try em!) and I have to agree with a previous post- most of the food is 9 bucks and under. there are so many kinds of burgers! delish! i have never been dissapointed with yo mama's, I recommend it to everyone.

the owner is a geniune caring person and it shows in his business :)

  • Great food, nice owners, great drinks

I was recently there for St. Patty's day and celebrating my birthday with my favorite and wonderful guy. The owners gave me a great t-shirt, the food was hot and good, and the drinks were cold. Thanks.
