One of the expert creations from the mind of lounge maven Rande Gerber of Sky Bar, this dark corner of the Crescent City's martini scene is located in the stylish W Hotel. It's tiny (occupancy is somewhere in the low 90s), and depending on whom you talk to, the atmosphere is either unbearably snobbish or not exclusive enough. True to its name, most of the dim light leaking out from behind the bar is blue, accenting the light of the votive candles already present. A queen-size bed sits bizarrely, but enticingly, in the middle of the bar. Featuring small tables, low stools, leather club chairs and fat sofas, the ambiance is boutique-chic yet cozy. As an added bonus, jazz greats look down beatifically from classic B&W photos portraits on the wall. Be sure to try their expert version of a whiskey sour. The martinis are also excellent and generous, if expensive, and they're free for ladies from 10PM to 1AM on Thursdays, making this an excellent spot for the discriminating lounge lizard to go prowling.
