It's strange but true that a really good po-boy is hard to come by in the French Quarter. Many Quarterites will go ONLY to Johnny's Po-Boys, where the prices are relatively high but the product is at least reliable, if not great. The old-fashioned cafeteria setting is perfect for a casual bite between sights, though the dining room is a bit rough around the edges -- hardly a spot to settle in for a main-event meal. Amiably gruff counter service and a decidedly unhurried touch to the preparations complete the picture of an old-time southern lunch spot. The sandwiches can also be prepared to go, and the Woldenberg Park is just two blocks away, beckoning a riverside picnic. Shrimp, oyster, roast beef, sausage and all the other familiar favorites for French-bread fixing are on the board that serves as a menu. Red beans and rice, jambalaya and breakfast items are also available, but, like the name says, the focus here is definitely on the po-boys. -- Stella Hebert

If a tourist finds Johnny's on St. Louis they find part of the soul of new orleans. It is family, loud and happy and full of smiles. Loved the roast beef po-boy the very best. Lots of gravy. Lots of history on the walls, too.
    Love it

We weren't that impressed. Long wait, place was so crowded couldn't find anywhere to sit and eat, person taking the order made us feel rushed to place the order. Some places just develop a reputation of having to go there or you'll miss out on something. We felt Subway would have been a better buy, with better service.

The place had a line out the door for a reason! Best Po boy in town and their potato salad was terrific. The staff was very busy and very nice. Definitely recommend!
