The brave and the initiated order the alligator-sausage 'cheesecake' (honestly, think of it as quiche). If anyone's in the mood for something different, the savory shrimp pasta, Mediterranean beef or curried mussels will do handily.
This is slow food, lovingly cooked, so patrons come prepared to wait; an hour seems the standard amount of time spent at the tiny, crowded bar. Reservations are accepted only for parties of five or greater. Aficionados favor the patio over the dining room, and both venues feature close-set seating, which, with the convivial service, creates an almost community dining experience. Share the three-layer chocolate mousse pie (white, milk, dark) with your companion or your new friends at the next table. BEST FRIED CHICKEN IN THE USA

IF YOU COME IN AROUND 5 P.M. YOU DON'T HAVE TO WAIT. AFTER THAT EXPECT A 2-3 HOUR WAIT. THE WAIT IS WORTH IT. WHERE ELSE DOES THE OWNER COME TO THE TABLE AND BUYS YOU DRINK?

The so called "fusion" cuisine reminds me of some of the restaurants far from New Orleans which combine Louisiana cooking with desert southwest fare. . I am not a native of NOLA being a New Yorker, so don't hate me if I am wrong, but I travel often to this wonderful city - dote on the great food not only within the city limits with the traditional Creole fare I love most ,but also travel to Layfeyette for the country cajun which I enjoy but perhaps a bit less. In food matters I am conservative, I like traditional sauces, on ttraditional foods served in traditional places even when basic. I find nothing I like about this place, dispite the fact that I have given it more than a few chances. The atmosphere looks like old poverty hippie low rent sixties, the service rather non caring , the prices perhaps a tad too high but not a rip off, but most important of .all the food is wierd - not at all the real thing - and for better or worse not like anything else that has ever been offered in NOLA. Actually it reminds me of what might have been created by some of my Long Island buddies who decided to go to New Orleans on a lark and open up a restaurant to fool the hell out of the tourists and perhaps a few locals and pass off some experimental Nouville Cuisine as the real deal. On the other hand so many people like the place that perhaps I am missing something. But you have been warned and if you go I am sure you will survive the experience, the food is at least fresh and dispite the low rent atmosphere the place probably has a clean kitchen.

I am a NEW ORLEANS native now living in Long Island New York ,I recently visited Jacques-Imo's a few months ago , when I lived in New Orleans I tried to get in on a few occassions and there was always a 2-3 hour wait. Now that I live in New York I finally got in but it was 10pm Jack the owner bought my Wife and I with my guest a round of coctails great Guy Jack. Wish you were her in Manhattan still but we will be back soon!!!!!

We have eaten in some of the finest resturants but this one takes the cake.......alligator cheesecake that is.....the food at Jacques Mo's is excellent...We highly recommend it.
put this place at the top of your list

I have lived in N Orleans for 7 months and this place remains
as my # 1 favorite. I have been 3 times and each visit has been better. If you don't get there by 530p you will wait up to and hour and a half. The bar area is small and there are just a few chairs and benches for a long wait. The Maple Leaf Bar is right next door so you can easily walk over and get a cold beverage without a wait. The location is off the beaten path but adds to the funky charm. It's in an older building with scattered small rooms with tight quarters. It's kinda loud but the staff is friendly and very professional.
I have had the Cheese Cake, Godzilla meets Fried Green Tomatoes, Redfish and Gumbo.
It's a great place to take quest's because it's a more than just a meal it's a dining exxperience. If your in the F Quarter you can take the Street Car down St Charles to Carrollton. I have not found a better overall place yet.Goooodddd FFooooodd
The food is great and do prepare for a wait. Fill your time with chesecake appetizer and a deep fried poor boy. i would suggest removing outside tables (not truck table) to speed up kitchen. My group complained about time and then was shut up when food arrived. Staff does not avoid you either during the wait. Only a man can eat the stuffed pork chop. Prices have gone up recently maybe due to new restuarant in New york...

The previous reveiws sm it up, but I just had to add mine. The atmosphere is shorts and t-shirts, but the food is tux and tails!

Got to be one of the best in New Orleans. Four visits so far, batting 1000! Fun atmosphere, exceptional menu, friendly, attentive wait staff. We've had better luck on weeknights due to shorter wait times for table, but regardless, well worth any wait. Swordfish w/Jack's Mojo sauce incredible. Godzilla crab dish also fantasic. Portions very generous. We had a great time, and everyone around us seemed to be enjoying the place also- we'll be back again!
