When it comes to breakfast places in Newport, Mokka is here to stay. And they're serious about it -- Mokka offers only breakfast and lunch, and they close at 2PM. Choose from waffles, biscuits and gravy, frittatas, pancakes, eggs, or their most popular item: French toast. What makes it such a hit? Get this: three slices of inch-thick Texas toast crusted in sweet corn flakes and topped with creme brulee, bananas and powdered sugar. Easy to see why that one's an award winner. For the lunch crowd, there are salads and nearly a dozen sandwiches, tops among them buffalo chicken, smoked salmon, chicken cordon bleu, Reuben and Philly steak. The interior is part diner, part grandma's kitchen, which gives the place a homey atmosphere. No by-the-book rules here, either: If the chef feels like making something new for the upcoming week, he will. So you can bet that you'll get more attention and food of a better quality. Just like grandma's kitchen.

  • Unique & Definitely Best in Cincy Area!

    Review rating : 5out of 5   RobynRen - 05/26/2008

Discovered Mokka after a bit of research when my brother only had time for breakfast with a Cincy layover. I never really loved breakfast foods and don't even like bananas, but the French Toast is out of this world with it's light creme brulee & cornflake crunch! The best diced potatoes and hot chocolate I've ever had. I even tried and liked the Goetta, a first for this Oklahoma native. At both the old and new locations, the staff goes out of it's way to accommodate children and help with selections. You cannot go wrong at Mokko's!

  • NEW LOCATION & REVAMPED!!!

    Review rating : 5out of 5   reenie33 - 01/29/2008

We have always loved Mokka however we found out that in November it switched locations around the Corner to The Syndicate Building on 5th Ave close to Newport on the Levee. This was a Wonderful move for them, granted they lost the Outdoor Patio but Gained a Fabulous Area that has Wowed us and is very open yet intimate for Singles & Families alike. They have stepped up their Menu and thier Decor-The food is Delicious and the feeling of the room is Upscale Retro with Beautiful touches from the flowers on the tables to the Hollywood Stars in Frames. They have much more seating, including Private Seating, "Love Booths", Classic Breakfast Tables, and Seperate Overlook areas. John was amazing and even gave us a tour of the Perfect Location-Hopefully soon they will have longer hours and a Bar Area which will take Mokka to a Whole new Level:) Please check it out for Breakfast they have Street Parking and a HUGE Paid Parking Lot. They also have Yummy Cincy Favorites along with Specialties only found there. Try selecting one of their Hot Gourmet Teas or Refreshing Power Drinks. Its Great for Breakfast with the Girls, A Breakfast Date, or The Family for the Buffet on the Weekends. We cannot express how great it is to unwind for only $20 or less for both of us at a Top 10 Family Owned Breakfast Spot in the Cincinnati Area. See for yourself and I promise you will return.

  • not as good

    Review rating : 2out of 5   silvrbuttrfly - 01/21/2007

While the food is good at Mokka, a much better version of the french toast (and many other things) is on the west side at the Coffee Cap (or I beleive it may be called Victor's now).

  • Not worth the wait

    Review rating : 1out of 5   nkypennies - 01/04/2007

Each time someone drags me to Mokka, there is a line out the door and I can't figure out why. The food is mediocre, the portions & preparation inconsistent & the staff always seems stressed & grumpy. You get the feeling you're a PIA for walking in the door. Not to mention the roaches I've seen 3 different times on the tables. Yuck!

  • Yum Yum

    Review rating : 5out of 5   nussbaumberne - 05/30/2006

This restaurant is charming and the food is excellent. I highly suggest the french toast with goetta (a local meat that is popular to the region). Great meal at a very reasonable price!

Mokka is well worth the drive, wherever you may live in Greater Cincinnati. A reasonable meal, very good prices, warm atomsphere, and friendly service.
