Greater Cincinnati's brewing heritage and German ancestry is on full display in the Hofbrauhaus, a 13,000-square-foot restaurant that offers German cuisine, several beers made right on the premises and live bands playing songs from the Old World. Located just minutes from downtown Cincinnati, Hofbrauhaus -- patterned after its famous Munich namesake -- is across the street from the Newport on the Levee entertainment complex. Its location is only fitting: A multitude of German immigrants settled into the region, which was once home to more than a hundred breweries at the turn of the century. All the wood and stained glass used in the restaurant is imported from Germany. There's room for up to 700 diners -- 360 inside the hall and another 320 on the comfortable outdoor patio. But there's also a smaller, more private dining area if crowds don't suit you. As expected, the menu is full of German favorites such as sauerbraten, wiener schnitzel and wurstlteller. But there are also American dishes -- hamburgers, seafood, pasta, chicken and even Kentucky Hot Brown, a local favorite of ham, turkey, melted cheese, bacon and tomato. -- Patrick Crowley

If you like to hang with college kids and get drunk, then this is the place. Don't go for the food. They put down the germans trying to serve food out of the can. Please americans this is not how we really serve food in germany. Go to another restaurant for authentic german food.

  • BEST BEER ANYWHERE

    Review rating : 4out of 5   scotlepage1960 - 06/30/2005

I love the beer at the Hofbrauhouse....to me it is better than Goose Island in Chicago or even our own Barrelhouse. But the food has taken a turn for the worse.....and I noticed last time there on 6/27/05 the portions had been reduced. They need to get the food on par with the great beer .....start getting along with their Vendors.....and how about a daily special?!

Great beer and schnitzle! A fun place with loud German music where energy abounds. The jagerschnitzle (?) was scrumptious, and you must try the dark beer.

6/14/03 4:30pm Waited only 35 minutes for table for five..in the non smoking small dinning room..Service was good for the amount of people in the Halle. The fried pickles were very good, along with the Bürgermeister's wings.
The Sauerbraten should have more of a sweet sauer taste but the bread dumplings should be replaced with Spätzie...Now..The Wiener Schnitzel...it was "AUSGEZEICHNET" It was really great....In fact all of the German Dinners and Appetizers I like were very good. BUT I would like to see them add "Kartoffel Pfannkuchen" to the Speisekarte...PS the Dunkel Bier was the best of the Bier that was available.....ALSO
outside of the two Cooks and the Manager does anyone speak German?...I tried to order in German but I only obtain a blank look. I would also suggest that in the Bier Halle the band plays more than the six songs that I heard repeated...Over all I had a great time and will continue to bring my German Family and friends to the Hofbäuhaus again and again....Tschueß

Nice Place ...BUT ...warning signs!! This place has a THREE HOUR WAIT for dinner regularly ...and they seem to have that arrogant Geman / European attitude about their customers. Enjoy business NOW and treat customers badly and risk having the place EMPTY one year from now. The place is good...but no place is THAT good where Customer attention and attitude can take a back seat. You are only a "New Place" for so long...... GREAT beer, though!!!
