"Kentucky cuisine" is how Walt's describes its menu offerings. This tristate favorite continues to fuel the controversy over who has the best ribs in town. Whatever your preference, there's no denying that Walt's delicious ribs and homey atmosphere make dining here a memorable experience. Housed in an authentic Kentucky log cabin, the restaurant has changed hands only a few times since it first opened as a Hitching Post restaurant in the 1930s. Its current owner is credited with developing the spicy, sweet sauce that has made Walt's ribs famous. With the emphasis on the meat, side dishes are simple but delicious, like sweet coleslaw and salty vegetables. Big-haired waitresses and loyal regulars round out the comfortable atmosphere.

Walt's is one of the few places around that you can still get ribs that our cooked the old fashion way. You know hung up in a smoke house and slowly cooked to perfection. This allows you to naw them off the bone. You do have to like to pick them up with your fingers. (thats really the only way to eat them) Most places around will par boil them and they will fall off the bone. They our still ediable and not as messy but you owe it to yourself to taste and get down and dirty at ************** Post.
Be sure to ask for the special house dressing on your salad. I bet you will take some home. Enjoy

From ribs to the salad with the House dressing, to the home fries cooked to ones liking-our 35 years experience at Walts speaks to the product ,service and ownership - superb! Fun for families of all ages - watch the outdoor WOOD fire cook the hanging racks; orders to go,too; Walt's sauce is the secret - tasty. Waitresses have a spark and humor. Make it "Priority One" for your next dinner out, you will not be disappointed.

  • perfect meal is served here !

As a college graduate,my recruiter took me here in 1980. for dinner. Wow , what great tasting ribs, home fries like I have never tasted (perfect) and a coleslaw taste that you wished the bowl was deeper. The server I thought was hitting on me by the way she called me names of honey ,sugar and darlin, but everyone gets called that. I did wind up living in Cincy but never found better ribs that at Walts hitching post. I now have lived in many cities since then but , if I had only one meal left in my existance on this kind earth. I honestly think I would look at my wife and say I think were going to that funky little place down that charming winding road in the holler of Kentucky called Walts Hitching Post. It was great the first time we went there and it was just as good the last time we went there.
    Greg ,now in Minnesota
