So how did a Kansas City barbecue place end up with a name like Oklahoma Joe's? Turns out that the owners started in the business by entering meat they'd prepared in their Oklahoma Joe's Smoker in local barbecue competitions. They were so successful in competition that the smoker company agreed to open a company restaurant with the team. Why the success? A trip to the KC restaurant answers that question: flavorful, well-smoked meat paired with a tangy, peppery sauce, great fries and thick, smoky baked beans. And since opening, the restaurant has built its own success, drawing in many barbecue lovers as regulars. First-timers should be ready for a little adventure. Joe's location is unique -- the restaurant is situated inside a gas station and adjacent to a company-owned liquor store. With food as good as Joe's, though, dinner itself is no risk at all. -- Anna Foote

AMAZING

How on god's green earth did Gates and Bryant's get better reviews than this place? I never ever post on here, but I had to create a login just to specificlly challenge the notion that any other BBQ place in this city is better than Okie Joe's. I can understand some people may prefer Jack Stack, it's a great place, but comeon. Bryants? GATES? You oviously have poor standards. First off, the pulled pork here is by far and i mean BY FAR better than any other place. Fries are the best, and the sides are second best only to Jack stack.
Please don't insult true BBQ lovers and try this place out. Once you have had the pulled pork, sausage and ribs, you will see what I mean.Add CommentBest BBQ Ive Ever had
From Tennesse To Texas Back to Missouri, this is the best BBQ ive ever had. Although located in a gas station, I've yet to see anyone actually buy gas. The line is always rapped around the building for the BBQ.
Best There Is
Great prices, incredible flavor and seasoning. This is the place to go without huge prices or assembly line BBQ like Gates.
The Best in KC

This is hands down the best BBQ in Kansas City. There are many others that have their strengths, but Oklahoma Joe's stands above them all around and in certain categories. First let me start with the only negative. I do not care for their baked beans, not my style. But, for everything else you need look no further than here. Highlights include the best french fries I have ever had anywhere...but what you go to a BBQ place for is smoked meat. Joe's highlights include their brisket, ribs, Smokey Joe, Z-Man, Hogamaniac and the Cowboy Dinner. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Don't forget that they have two locations, one in Olathe and the original which has great atmosphere!

One of the Better Ones
Of the big commercial operations, OKJ's is one of the small guys w/only 2-3 locations and good tasting meats, okay sauce but the beans lag behind and could use some help. Good flavor that lingers and stays with you a while. Good mix of smoking woods for flavor.

Excellent Flavor and GReat All Around
Anyone saying this is less than 4 stars has no BBQ saavy. I have had the best world wide and this is noe xception. Try the sampler plate. For those who complain about dry meat...do you know the difference between wet and dry BBQ? Great spices, great portions for the money, and a lingering taste that lasts for hours!
