Amici Miei owners Davide Megna and Roberto Deias have plenty of cucina cred between them. Megna studied cooking in Italy's Piedmont region and went on to run the kitchen at Roberto Donna's Arucola in Chevy Chase. Deias studied in Sardinia and worked front-of-the-house at Cafe Milano and Galileo.
Set in a suburban shopping plaza, Amici Miei (translation: "my friends") welcomes diners with a warm "buon giorno" and a hearty Italian menu. At lunch, that means panini filled with portobello mushrooms and fontina, or fresh mozzarella and prosciutto. Dinner brings plates of antipasti such as lightly fried calamari, vitello tonnato, and an array of Italian cold cuts. Homemade pastas range from simple preparations -- eggplant parmigiana -- to the more robust veal agnolotti with mushrooms and veal reduction sauce. If you've still got room, move on to dishes such as veal scallopine over polenta, or a simply grilled piece of trout. -- Ann Limpert

Baffled at how it's rated high
Poor service - inattentive, unknowledgeable, lacked any flair or investment in the job/restaurant. Food was mediocre at best. Watercress salad lacked taste. I've had better calarmari out of the frozen food section from the supermarket. Eggplant parm wasn't too bad (if you like lots of cheese), but the linguine it comes with was terrible. the sauce on the linguine didn't match the taste of the sauce on the eggplant - was not a good match. Pasta was overcooked and sauce was too sweet. not sure how you can mess up linguine like that.
And, they had no lemonade for my Arnold Palmer, to boot. Nice environment though - not too casual, but not fancy. Kid friendly.Comments(0)|Add CommentDisregard 05/15/2006 review
This is a great restaurant, and the badly inaccurate review on 05/15/2006 almost made me not go there. But Washingtonian Magazine rates it in the 100 Best Eats in the DC Area, and that is where this excellent restaurant belongs. Great food with great service. This is the first and only review I have ever written: the Amici is so good that I totally refute the 05/15/2006 bad review.
.
Not very Impressed. The food was marginal, Service OK, the greeter at the door was the owner but was not very warm and welcoming in fact we felt as though our business was putting him out. Not like Italy at all!!
wonderful pizza
Almost as good as Rome -- the pasta was good too -- the service is still a little rough but its a new place.
Welcome to the Nerighborhood!
It's nice to have a great little place to go in the neighborhood--and this is it. The pastas are very good, especially the veal and wild mushroom. No need to drive to Bethesda any longer!
