Specializing in hickory-smoked barbecue, this Northside spot takes pride in serving the sort of Southern fare you wouldn't expect to find north of the Mason-Dixon Line. The spacious and simple dining room seats nearly 200 and offers easy-to-clean surfaces, plenty of elbowroom and enough paper towel dispensers to help clean up remains of your messy meal. Served by the dozen and dripping with G.T.'s famous barbecue sauce, the diminutive but delicious chicken drummies are hard to overlook on the spiced-up starter menu. Regulars rave over the smoked ribs. Dry rubbed with a special blend of spices and slow-cooked over hickory wood for up to 12 hours, the tender meat barely clings to the bone. The Southern-style eatery has little regard for your waistline, as massive mounds of beef are piled high and served next to your choice of two sides. Macaroni and cheese, baked beans, cole slaw and corn bread are just a few of the choices. All items on the menu are available for carryout, with sandwiches taking top take-home honors. Pulled chicken, barbecue beef brisket and thinly slicked smoked turkey are just a few of the savory selections.

Super for take out!

The best take out pulled pork for sandwiches. I get it for some small get togethers. Everyone loves it.
Add CommentMeat "Soup"???
Its been a while since our dinner there. I had ordered a bowl of a meat based "soup", I forgot what they called it, but I think the meat was bad. I did my best to keep it down while in the building, OK now, I've got to stop thinking about it, it gives me a "lump in my thoat.
Where is the Pit Master?
Came to town for the 500 and used this web site to select a non-chain BBQ House. What self respecting Pit Master does not remove the membrane on the back side of the ribs before the cooking process begins. Was appalled, if this is one of Indy's best, NEVER show me a listing of the worse.
Truly the best in Indy

Best pulled pork sandwich in town. We also love the Baby Back Ribs. Our kids love the Rib Tips.
This is the best BBQ We've ever had.
Its A must. Try it you'll like it.Fantastic, tribute to Travis
G. T. South's is still the best place for BBQ. Travis South was a wonderful host and is missed greatly by his regular customers.
His kids are doing a wonderful job keeping up the quality that their Dad insisted on. Everything is good, besides the BBQ my favorite is their coleslaw!!Simply the best
We`ve eaten BBQ all over the city and elsewhere. G.T.`s is simply the best, bar none.
Taste of the South
Having been raised on Big Bob Gibson's BBQ it had been hard for us to find anything that compared to what we were used to.G.T.South's was the closest so far.Travis the owner was more than gracious and the "sweet tea" wasn't to shabby either.
Very Good

No frills, just good pork BBQ. Not the cookie-cutter chain stuff, cooked on premises, low and slow! Be hungry.
Average

If your looking for average BBQ then this is the place. The meat on my sandwich was dry, because it was cooked without the sauce. The macaroni and cheese was below average and the cornbread was ok. So if your looking for something average, I would go here. I don't think I will be back.
