Bigger isn't always better, especially when it comes to this diminutive, cozy restaurant harkening back to 1984; patrons have been known to wait up to an hour for seating at one of its six tables. All the while they rack their brains vacillating between the thin and crispy grilled chicken alfredo pizza and the pillow-soft gnocchi stuffed with silky ricotta and topped with parmesan-pesto cream sauce. Decisions, decisions. Regulars will provide this sage advice: order the marinated, grilled calamari and see what else Chef Andy McGuire recommends. Perhaps it will be one of the risotti dishes or the ever-popular Chicken alla Gondola, baked with fresh-made Italian sausage, Vesuvio potatoes, sauteed mushrooms and sweet green peppers in a wine sauce. Finish the meal off with a hearty cup of espresso, a slice of homemade tiramisu and a huge, overstuffed cannoli. Then move on -- others are probably waiting.

Best Italian Food Around
Living in San Francisco, California, I certainly miss the outstanding food served at LaGondola. Their pizza is the best anywhere and the veal marsala is one of my favorites. How about opening a branch in San Francisco?
Add Commentvery good italian.

Not only is the food great, but the portions are huge as well, the pizza is good too, be warned though, it's a small dining room, make a reservation and there's alway's lots of off street parking. not a lot of white wine too choose from, but if you like red there's plenty.

dont be fooled by location...
this place is a hidden jem in lincoln park/lake view, awsome pizza and authentic italian dishes, only downside- small dining room, sometimes we need to wait 10-40 minutes, other then that its worth the wait, try the black mussels diavlo or Calamari for starters, then the eggplant parm. or rigatoni boscaiola, you won't regret it!!!
