Bigger isn't always better, especially when it comes to this diminutive, cozy restaurant harkening back to 1984; patrons have been known to wait up to an hour for seating at one of its six tables. All the while they rack their brains vacillating between the thin and crispy grilled chicken alfredo pizza and the pillow-soft gnocchi stuffed with silky ricotta and topped with parmesan-pesto cream sauce. Decisions, decisions. Regulars will provide this sage advice: order the marinated, grilled calamari and see what else Chef Andy McGuire recommends. Perhaps it will be one of the risotti dishes or the ever-popular Chicken alla Gondola, baked with fresh-made Italian sausage, Vesuvio potatoes, sauteed mushrooms and sweet green peppers in a wine sauce. Finish the meal off with a hearty cup of espresso, a slice of homemade tiramisu and a huge, overstuffed cannoli. Then move on -- others are probably waiting.

Tmp4228 - 07/28/2009LaGondola is phenomenal. My favorite is the pizza and the lasagna. I just came back from Italy 2 weeks ago and I tried lasagna at 5 different restaurants and they can't touch LaGondola's. I am serious. Once you try it you will be hooked. Everything I have had there was excellent. I have to say that I love pizza and it is hard for me to say which is my favorite but LaGondola's is always going to be in the conversation when we are talking about the top 3.

Besides the excellent tasting pizza that can be ordered or delivered, I highly recommend linguini with mussels or even the rigatoni vodka which has an savory tomato cream sauce. Basically it's all to die for. Whether your celebrating an anniversary or just looking for a simple night out with friends and family,,,this is the place. From great apps to tasty dinner dishes, I LOVE THIS PLACE. FYI- I've met the owner Andy, and I must say- what a fun loving family man who knows his Italian food. Ciao!

myrarubin - 06/20/2008I absolutely love & recommend this place! The food is extremely authentic and fresh and staff/owner very friendly. This place is truely a "hidden" gem in Chicago. Delivery is great, hot and timely. Yes, it is in a stripmall and tiny...but good things DO come in small packages! The gnocchi and calamari are delicious, but so is everthing else on menu. Too many to list, great thin crust pizza as well. Check it out! Love it!

LauSmith7 - 06/12/2008The best Italian Food in Chicago!!! Starting w/ the fried calamari, and then the chicken parm or even the lasagna. And to end it off w/ homemade tiramisu and italian lemon ice. Although we did have to wait a while for our food at the end was worth it. & I would def. recommed this rest. to all my friends.

CrzyBoyBl - 05/23/2008i freakin love this place. food is awesome. sometimes it may take a little longer than wanted but, it is well worth it everytime! have dined in several times and its such a great experience. cozy, friendly, and somewhat romantic. service is curteous and really friendly. they never forget your face. food was to die for, i had the salmon vesuvio, freaking amazing. my boyfriend had the chicken parm and he loved it. says its the best he's ever had. i do wish they had a bigger place, and parking is so very convenient. i tell all my friends to go and don't be turned away by the strip-mall location. always looking forward to going back.
