In Short
One of three Italian Village restaurants under a single 75-year-old roof, La Cantina is located on the basement level. The room exudes a cozy, wine cellar feel, with booth seating divided by a colorful saltwater aquarium. The seafood-centric menu includes popular linguine con vongole with red or white clam sauce and scampi casalinga, a melange of Gulf shrimp, shallots and mushrooms in sherry sauce. Other dishes worth trying: eggplant Parmesan, veal marsala and chicken Vesuvio.

Dependably over the top for generations
From the ravioli eaten at my 18th birthday party to the pre-ballet dinner shared with my daughter and youngest granddaughter (I am 67), it is the best, or as my granddaughter said, "Awesome."

TIMELESS QUALITY
The quality, presentation, value and service date back to a time when food service establishments actually cared about satisfying the customer.
Good job, Italian Village Restaurants and keep up the good work!Swedish Italian?

Service was great, but it was the blandest italian food I ever tasted. Not much better than tomato sauce dumped on noodles. Blah-h-h--h
Works Next Door

I work right next door, so IÂve been going here for a few years. The food does very, from fantastic to good, but IÂve never had a bad meal there. What I like about it most, besides being right next door, is the atmosphere. There are 3 restaurants to choice from and each has its own ambiance and charm and price. I love Wednesday nights at the Village (upstairs) live entertainment from a fun ÂFrank Sinatra style Cabrera group. I have been known to have to take a cab home because I stayed too late and drank too much. The place is not all that expensive considering its downtown Chicago, this is not an inexpensive pizza place.
Very cozy and great food
Went here for lunch, the service was wonderful and the food very good aswell, so nice and romatic, will be back soon.
Northern Italian at its Best
I have been going to the Italian Village since the 1970's and love all three restaurants. Always special attention paid by the staff to all details and the food and desserts simply great. As an Executive Chef myself, I can fully appreciate the effort it takes to consisitently put out such wonderful offerings over the decades.
The only place for Italian in the city outside of the Old Neighborhood.
