Time stands still at Ed Debevic's, where every day feels like a scene from a 1950s movie. A replica of a legendary roadside restaurant where the owner/waitress sassed everybody who came in, this tongue-in-cheek diner is a Chicago classic. Rock 'n' roll music blasts from above, forcing conversations to roaring levels. Gum-chewing, fast-talking waiters and waitresses flit around taking orders, and retro trappings dot the walls, giving customers something to talk about as they endure the long wait for a table. The menu is simple, old-fashioned and fun. It includes burgers, salads, hot dogs and meatloaf as well as decadent desserts like milkshakes, sundaes and banana cream pie. The staff, dressed in '50s and '60s costumes, frequently jumps up on the counter to give a lip-sync and dance worth the wait.

We went there while on vacation. I heard about it from a Rachael Ray show. The kids and myself loved it! Our servers name was Jughead. 3 years later and my kids still talk about him!

After convincing the group to go no one wanted to leave! Ed's has great food and an even greater staff! You walk in and get told to leave and get smart, but funny, comments the entire time. Fun and Laughter fill the whole resturent! From Trowing napkins at you when you want more or yelling across the place all the way to harrassing your order nothing beats ED Debevic's!

there is nothing better than hittin Ed's right before a green day show! Best food on the planet and the worst staff (in a good way). I have a ton of fond memories to last a lifetime!

  • Eat and get out!

A must see when in Chicago. Last time I was there, they had a slogan: "Eat and Get Out" This place has all kinds of neat stuff packing into the place, like an airplane hanging from the ceiling. Almost looks like an antique collectibles place that happens to sell food.
