Nice addition

I think this place is a nice addition to the steak scene in the Windy City. Reservations were promptly honored, the service was a little ragged but very earnest. The food was quite good, well presented and delicious. None of the hustle of Gibsons and certainly none of the attitude of Tavern. A winner.

Normally I don't visit a restaurant the first week it opens; however, the hype for David Burke's Primehouse made me change my mind. I just couldn't resist making an early Saturday night reservation. Overall I was greatly impressed with all aspects of the dining experience, especially the food.
We arrived early to have a drink in the bar, and that was probably the weakest part of the operation. The bar is very modern, and has a comfortable sitting area. The problem is the bar is within 25' of the two outside entrances. It was only in the 40's last night, but both ladies in our party were uncomfortably cold. Next winter when the temps get down into the teens this will be a big problem. That's the worst thing I can say, as our server was prompt with our drinks and we were off to our table.
The dining room was beautiful and looked nothing like the other fine steakhouses in the city. No dark wood paneling here, very modern and trendy. Each table was covered with a red leather table cover. The dining room was very quiet, and staffed for excellent service. The service level reminded me of the finer New York restaurants. When I asked where the wash room was located, I was ushered to the room rather than given directions.
We started with a shrimp cocktail and the wedge salad. The wedge was the best I've ever tasted. My wife had the bone in filet and I had the bone in rib eye. Both were done perfectly. While the rib eye is better at Smith and Wollensky, the service her puts Smiths to shame.
Our server was very experienced, and while attentive he didn't disrupt our dining. Some of the other steakhouses in the city tend to put a premium on turning the tables, not here. At no time did we feel rushed or pressured to order. Expensive -- of course, but that expected out of a high end place. Another unexpected bonus, they gave us a 20% discount because it was their first week. We'd definitely return!!!!
