The entrance to the Little Five Points location is a giant skull that swallows you whole. Get sucked in with the Vortex's extensive menu, which offers nearly every beer you can think of. Besides 30 beers on tap, you'll find more than 210 bottled beers and more than 80 single-malt Scotches. The interior is a visual logjam, with goofy things of all sorts crawling the walls: airplanes, skeletons on motorcycles, old license plates and a big moose head for starters.

At both locations, the big, fat, juicy burgers are the main act. Topping options include blue, jack and cheddar cheese as well as homemade salsa. If burgers aren't your thing, you'll find good chicken, fish and shrimp options plus generous deli sandwiches. Vegetarians can chose a black bean or veggie burger. For compromisers, there's a good turkey burger. Lunchtime hosts mostly business folk, but it draws in the younger set at night. -- Stephanie Boozer & Judith Augustine

  • Burgers and More

I love the burgers at the Vortex. I used to eat at the Little 5 location weekly. I never had an issue with the burgers. I don't work near there anymore but I still go down there frequently to eat. I've read alot of critcism regarding the food. If you've been and didn't like the burgers, try Cap'n Larry's Pork 'n' Pirate. It's a bar-b-q pork sandwich that is INCREDIBLE. Every time I go it's hard not to choose it over the burger. The Cap'n Larry's kicks @$$.

Don't know why the Vortex rates best burger. I find them dry, tasteless and pretty ordinary. Their buns are rubber balls. The rating might be due to the V-Highlands residents simply supporting the locals, or maybe business connections.

Had heard good things all the way in South Alabama, Good thing Burgers made up for the arrogarant rude waitress. She was more interested in expressing her opinion instead of offering good service. Don Fairhope AL

I had heard so much about this place, we just had to try it out, good size and price ok, but meat was dry and not very tasty, I had to put exta mayo on to finish. I'll stay with fuddruckers, they have a burger.

The atmosphere is great, the service was great and the burgers are to die for. I had the burger with fried jalepenos and tater tots on the side - it was delicious!

  • Small but great

    Review rating : 4out of 5   aipimang - 09/16/2006

Best burgers in Atlanta. They did me up a cajun burger with killer bleu cheese dressing and tater tots on the side that was one of the best burgers i've ever had. The tables and bar area are a little cramped, so go early or expect to wait a little bit for a seat. Great decor and atmosphere. Good beer/mixed drinks selection. A+ lunch spot.
