A local hub for lovers of cheap beer, burgers and a gritty, down-to-earth atmosphere.
George's is a comfy, neighborhood friendly tavern right in the middle of the Virgina Highlands. George's has been family owned and operated since 1961 and has become a Highlands' institution. George's plays host to numerous neighborhood functions, such as the weekly running group that meets here every Wednesday evening. Come watch your favorite sporting event on of our TVS and enjoy one of our famous hand pattied burgers made from 100% ground chuck beef and char-broiled to perfection. We also have a great beer selection available, both in draft and in the bottle. George's can accomodate private parties up to 20 people in our private upstairs room. So if your looking for good burgers, friendly people and a good time, come to George's.

The Scene
It's a slice of Americana filling two essential niches, a bar-lover's bar and a burger-lover's heaven. It's like a cleaner Moe's & Joe's with a bigger, better burger. Established in 1961, George's hasn't changed much and therein lies the charm. During the warmer months, patrons prefer to kick back with a beer and a burger at one of the outside tables. Venture inside and find 1960s-era booths, video games, TVs, sports memorabilia, and a musty bar in the back. Over the years, it's become a bit rough around the edges, but the no-pretense atmosphere, prime Highland locale and affordable comfort food give this burger joint enough appeal to make it a popular hangout. Burgers--big or small, plain or smothered in Swiss cheese and mushrooms--have gained quite a devout local obsession. Although there's a hit-or-miss quality to them, a $5 basket of comfort grub will make just about anyone happy.

The BEST!!

After six months in in Eastern Europe, we couldn't wait to get home to Georgia and real food.
George's was our FIRST stop!! In one week we visited George's twice. First visit, blue cheese burger with bacon. The burger was cooked perfectly and loaded with tangy blue cheese. Heaven on a plate!
Second visit, another burger, this time with guacomole and pepper jack... fortunately there were several of us so we could share different items. The Buffalo chicken strips are amazing, the onion rings to DIE for...
My only complaint is that we didn't have time for a third visit!!
We can't wait to get back for burgers like your mama wished she could make.Add Commentwhat more could you want?
George's is THE place to go for great burgers and beer. There's not a flashy thing about this bar (except for maybe the neons) which is one of the things I love most about it. Not to mention, the staff is outrageously friendly and accommodating. Cheers!
Georges excellent
It's been a while but the last time I was there the burger was very good and the beer was great.
