Smith's Olde Bar seems to be an unlikely source for some of the city's best barbecue, but until Fox Bros. BBQ opens up their own joint, the live music venue is the only place in town to get their pulled pork, ribs and brisket. While most barbecue lovers would be suspicious of a barbecue establishment that serves up both pulled pork and brisket, Fox Bros. pull it off without a hitch. Smoked chicken, turkey and wings are available for poultry lovers. All of the slow-smoked meats are cooked in a pit with oak, hickory, or pecan wood.

While all too often side dishes seem mere afterthoughts that pale into comparison to the barbecue, this is not the case with Fox Bros. From the mac-and-cheese to the slow-cooked collard greens and green beans with tomatoes and potatoes, these sides are worth saving room for.

COMING IN APRIL 2007: Fox Bros. BBQ will be branching out from Smith's Olde Bar and opening a new location at 1238 Dekalb Ave. Check back soon for more details.

I've tried BBQ from Texas all the way to the Carolinas and there simply is not a better plate of southern hospitality and good eating served anywhere else. Whether you live in Atlanta or if you're just paying a visit you've got to go by Fox Bros. The ribs, the brisket, sausage, all the sides
(especially the banana pudding), the sauce etc.....No place better in the ATL for BBQ!!!!!!!!!

We loved the blend of southern barbecue with the Texas brand. Mostly we enjoyed the brisket! You can get pulled pork anywhere in Atlanta, but everybody knows that slow-smoked brisket is pure 'd' Texas. The Fox Bros. got this one right, for sure. Great sides - the "Tommynator" RULES! Banana pudding better than your mama made! They have a great restaurant of their own at 1238 DeKalb Ave. Fun atmosphere - with lots of outdoor seating. A++ Guys!

  • Best in Atlanta by far!!!

This native Texan came close to nirvana in Atlanta with the best BBQ this side of Llano! There's no comparison...IT IS THE BEST IN ATLANTA!!! Their own location is open now at 1238 DeKalb AVe. Sides are excellent, and the smoked wings are the best! Try it...you won't be sorry...BEST in ATLANTA!

A very good friend of mine took me there when the dogs beat the gators, he lost the bet, his treat. The portions were so big I couldn't eat it all. It is great southern bbq. The service is great, the cook even came out to check with us to make sure all was good. Make sure you try the fried pickles and the fried mac and cheese. I have since brought no less than 20 new patrons to enjoy your restaurant. All and I say again, all enjoyed the food the atmosphere and the music (southern rock). Keep up the good work.

  • Just bland

    Review rating : 2out of 5   trickyoo - 10/04/2007

I'm an Oklahoma native, raised on both Texas and KC style bbq and was wanting Fox Bros to be a good Texas style bbq house, but it just came up short. I had the pork, and while it was really tender and had a great ring to it, it was a bit lacking in smoke. It was offputting that either uncooked rub or paprika was all over the meat when it came out. The sauce didn't help much as it was way too bland. And the sides were CLEARLY canned; I've scooped that potato salad out of a bucket on my own before. You just can't serve brought-in sides like that when Daddy Dz is down the street. Service was great but I felt for the wait staff as there was just way too many of them, can't be good on the tips.

I live just down the road and hate to say I won't be back.

  • Best BBQ in Hotlanta

For this Memphis native, the Fox Brothers BBQ is as good as any BBQ I had in 20 years of living in Memphis. And, the Fox Brothers BBQ sauce is the BEST I have ever had. Everything else on the menu is awsome, also.
