Even if you miss the tiny stage set up in one corner of this shoe-box shaped barbecue shack, the framed bluesmen on the wall give it away. At Fat Matt's Rib Shack, Muddy Waters and Jimmy Rogers look down at the long tables in this small venue as if they'd love to join you at the table.
Fat Matt's has got the basics down here: chopped pork, ribs or birds, slab, half-slab or sandwich, and quarter-slab/quarter-bird combos, with sides of rum baked beans, Brunswick stew, roasted peanuts and slaw. That's it, and that's all you'll need. With pitchers or glasses of beer, of course.
But it's the live blues that elevate this nondescript slab of brick on Piedmont Road to a true must-hear eatery. Things get started every night around 8PM, with musicians gathered under the black-and-blue mural at one end of the building. Get there early, or you may have to listen from your seat on one of the wooden booths outside. And be warned that parking is limited. -- Edna McCown

Wallace BBQ In Austell "BEST"
Okay people. What I am finding here is BBQ restrurants are all being rated. I have had BBQ at half of the restaurants on this list, and ""NONE"" hold a candle to Wallace BBQ, on Hwy 78 in Austell, GA. About 10 minutes from I-20 and I-285. I eat BBQ where ever I go, and have eaten at many many not on this list. Wallace is the best anywhere. They have ribs but there pork is by far the best on their menu.

I have eaten at Fatt Matts several times. Only because I was a delivery person and the food was half price. This guy Matt weighing maybe 140 pounds has fooled the south on BBQ. He and his family are country yankees. He buys ribs in higher quanity than the Kroger and usually gets the best price. His fatty ribs are from fatty hogs. Not really his fault, but he cooks BBQ in the south without even a wood burning fire. He uses gas and liquid smoke. He does not even make his own brunswick stew or BBQ sauce. He is a carpetbagger that has made it rich by tricking the richest outdoor southern tradition.Dont be mad at Matt when you leave with a half empty stomach and a 17.00 check, be mad at yourself.
cheap on the meat
i just had the worst exp there...it is so overpriced and i had maybe 2 bites of meat on my ribs and 2 bites of dark meat on what was supposed to have been half a chicken and rib combo...and when i called to tell them the manager acted as though i was making it up! go to daddy d's, its basically the same and you get more meat! rip off!
Chewy meat

Poor quality meat. Seemed grungy and dirty. Same style place in Decatur is cleaner and food is better.
good food bt small portions
The 1/2 slab I ordered could have made a little sandwich btwn 2 pieces of bread. complete ripoff. But it did taste good.
