Named for the phrase that means "gorgeous" in Chinese, Hao Wah merited its name with a most-attractive remodel in 2002. It transformed from a strip-mall dive to a spacious and sleek restaurant, one with hardwood furniture and curves, a meld of classic and modern you'd find in a young prince's royal quarters. The menu includes a wide variety of sushi and Vietnamese cuisines, and the lunch and dinner buffets are among the best around, with a higher-caliber of quality than the cafeteria-style Chinese budget stops. At lunch time, it's a challenge to find a parking space as South Tampa professionals pile in to devour all they can eat. The buffet items are neither goopy nor overheated, but freshly sauteed stir-fried dishes, crispy egg rolls, hot soups and decadent cream cheese rangoons. rnksunglass - 02/28/2007We went here at lunch today based on the reviews it received. I wasn't real impressed although it was a nice restaurant with nice employees. The buffet was just so so, nothing special and no extraordinary taste experiences. I did like the cream cheese rangoons and the honey chicken. Everything else was just very mediocre. I am now certain that there just aren't any real good Chinese restaurants in the Tampa Bay area and I've tried just about everything from PF Changs to this one. PF Changs is a complete waste of time and I've eaten at four or five of them all over the country. I probably would not go back to Hao Wah. It just wasn't exciting enough.

flahist - 04/12/2004Hao Wah (I confess) is my neighborhood Chinese restaurant, but whether you dine in or take out you get the same fine service and friendly exchange. A large but very traditional menu means you know what you get. The buffet avoids unpopular items and their replacement skills show there is a well-organized staff in back. The prices show this is a home-spun family restaurant.
